How much should I be getting when I pump?

I am breastfeeding my 13 week old, but trying to pump at least once a day to have some extra for when I go back to work. I am not getting too much extra each day, about 2.5 ounces. How much should I be getting? Any suggestions for how to get more without affecting his continued breastfeeding?

1-2 oz. is def. within the realm of normal for pumping, esp. when you're just starting! 2.5 oz in one session is awesome! To get more, you can try:

1. pumping on one side while you nurse on the other/ vice-versa
2. pumping after baby's done eating
3. after baby goes to sleep, pumping an extra time
4. (this one's hard) pump an extra time during the night- prolactin levels are highest very early in the morning

I used to pump about an hour after my daughter's first morning feeding, and got a lot then.
