Severe jaw pain, fainting, what's going on???

DP just called from work and said he had a severe pain in his jaw followed by him almost fainting. We have no idea what could have caused this. Any ideas? He's on his way to the doctor right now but, while I wait for an update, I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks!

Just talked to him and he said his jaw feels better but the dr says they found an irregular heartbeat.

I was going to say that he needs to get seen NOW. So I'm glad he has. Sudden and severe jaw pain with no apparent cause can be a symptom of heart issues. I hope everything is okay!

Thanks. He's at an urgent treatment place which was right by his work. I'm just waiting at home (on the other side of town) with ds to see what's going to happen. I sent dp's dad to the urgent treatment place for now until I know more.

It looks like the urgent treatment center isn't doing much for him so his dad is going to take him to the ER after they let him go from urgent treatment. I told him to push for an echocardiogram. Anything else we should be pushing for? I'm packing up ds and meeting him there, so this will be the last update for awhile.

Glad his Dad is taking him to the ER.

Definitly push for at least a 24 hour observation if they try to send him home. An echo would be good, in my experience with ER's, they are very vigilant when it comes to heart issues. The best test by far would be a heart cath, depending on the results of the ekg, bloodwork etc. Please hang in there, and take care of yourself as well! Expect that he will be staying in the hospital for a few days, usually it's a heart cath and if they find a blockage, than an angioplasty. I'll be praying for you guys!!!

i'm sure at the ER he will get a full blood workup as well. i would also push for 24 hour observation or halter monitor if they let him go. an echo would be a good start as well. was his jaw pain on bilateral or just on one side? any info on his heartrate or the type of irregular heartrate they found? some irregular heart rythms are considered benign FWIW...but def worth a full work up with the jaw pain and high BP. thinking of you and your fam!!!! keep us posted.

just read the part about almost fainting. i would really push for him to stay in the hosp for observation for at least a day and see if you can talk with a cardiologist when you get there. has he been sick with any sort of virus/illness lately?

I'd push for 24 observation too. A couple of weeks ago my dad had horrible chest pain and then fatigue. He went to the ER, his symptoms went away and almost all of his tests were coming back normal. They kept him overnight and then transfered him to a better hospital the next day for a cardiac cath procedure because of the one abnormal test and a family history of heart disease.

It turned out he needed a quadruple (sp?) bypass! We had no idea his arteries were in such bad shape and if they hadn't been super cautious with him, who knows what would have happened to him later.

This is all just a long winded way to tell you to push for as much testing as you can. Good luck to your DH.

Thanks everyone! We are back home They said the blood work was fine. They took a chest x-ray and that was fine. While he was hooked up to monitors he had a lot of PAC's, but the doctor said that was fine- it is PVC's they would be worried about. His blood pressure went back down and he started feeling a lot better. They told us that they didn't find anything wrong and to come back if he gets any pain, dizziness, fainting, etc. He goes to the dr tomorrow morning (already had an appointment for something unrelated) so he will talk to her about the 24 hour monitor (I think it's called a holter monitor? I had one a couple years ago).

Oh gosh. You probably won't sleep a wink tonight. Keep your hand close to him to make sure he is okay.
