Accidentally booked a Red Eye!

I'm not sure where to post this, so I don't mind if it get's moved.

We are planning a 3 hour plane trip soon and the plan was to drive 3 hours to the nearest major airport followed by and night at a hotel and depart the following day at 1 pm...
However, my husband got it mixed up and booked 1 AM!!!!

So we *might* be able to change it but then I thought maybe it would actually be good if we left home at 8 pm. arrived at the airport around 11 or 11:30. hung out with drowsy kids in the airport until we depart at 1 am and then would arrive at our desination at 5:55 am. (eastbound flight) we would then need to travel an hour and a half more to our final destination where we will have family and cousins around (so possible napping for Mommy and Daddy)

All this is will our 20 mos old (still nurses) and our high need/ (possibly ADHD) 4 yo boy.

Does this sound totally insane?! or possibly a good travel plan?

Any thoughts would be very appreciated.

Sounds fine to me! You won't get too much sleep but chances are your kids will do fine. You'll arrive at the right time to start your day, you can get them right back on their routine, you'll be tired but it'll be fairly seamless.

I actually think it might be better. Kiddos might sleep on the plain instead of having to be entertained. We flew a couple times on 7 hour flights that left at 1am when my kiddos were small. Always much better that the other way around.

I took a redeye with my son when he was 23 months and it was awesome. he slept the whole time. I didn't sleep, because I was holding him on my lap and nursing him a lot, but I managed to get by once we arrived!

Sleepy night travel is best with us and our high needs 13 month old. Unbelievably, he was the quietest baby on our 7 hour night flight recently! I put this down to cosleeping and the fact that he is used to sleeping in my arms. (Oh the screams from a little baby next to us whose mother tried repeatedly to get him to sleep in the plane's bassinet). Anyway, your DS is much older, but I say go for it! I always underestimate DS and travel. He's done brilliantly on every trip, but the easiest for me was definitely that night flight.
