Is a burrito just like a wrap??

After posting another Q here last week I decided to figure out how to make burritos & enchiladas.

From what I have read it seems to me like a burrito is like a hot sandwich wrap except with ingredients that are mexican inspired. Am I missing something??

(Same for enchiladas except they have a sauce on top)

a burrito has more filling than a wrap

Yeah a burrito is like a wrap.

We usually have taco meat, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, salsa, cheese, avocado

We sometimes use sour cream and sometimes rice.

I don't think quantity really matters...just stuff in a tortilla.

Burritoes are usually a flour tortilla and enchiladas are usually corn.

Either can have sauce but enchiladas the tortillas are cooked in the sauce, on burritoes the sauce is just poured on

A burrito is a type of wrap, the term "wrap" is more all encompassing and usually is referring to something with more fresh ingredients (as opposed to cooked). An enchilada is a bit different... you could compare an enchilada more closely to a crepe - it's stuffed then smothered and then baked.

Wraps/Burritos are flour tortillas. Enchiladas are corn.

Both are

Actually, I've had them all ways (corn vs flour). And wraps don't have to be a tortilla at all... lavash, rice paper wrappers, there are a dozen different things you can use as the wrap.

Well my kids won't eat burrits/enchiladas/wraps, but they LOVE "(fill in the blank with whatever is in it) ROLL UPS

I make banana roll ups, with nut butter, bittersweet chocolate gratings, and a banana.

Savory things like chicken, steak, etc with usually roasted veggies. We are not big bean fans

And I make fresh cheeses like farmer's cheese/yogurt cheese and mix with honey, spread over tortilla/wrap whatever, and either drizzle with honey, raisins, pecans, or sauted apples.

Mmm...burritos. I think they are whatever you want them to be. When I envision a wrap, I think anything that can be on a sandwich (mostly cold) all wrapped up with extra veggies in a flour tortilla, rice wrapper, etc. Burritos, I normally make with any type of protein, veggies, beans, maybe rice, cheese, etc. The sky is the limit. Enchiladas I make with smaller tortillas, sometimes protein, but usually just salsa, cheese and beans and bake them with a tasty salsa verde, or other sauce with a bit of cheese sprinkled on top.

Seriously, anything wrapped up in a tortilla gets eaten very easily around here. My dp just loves any type of burrito, wrap, etc. I actually got him to eat a breakfast burrito this morning (he never eats breakfast...). I stuffed a spinach basil tortilla with eggs, spinach, tomato, feta and cheddar cheese...

My kid loves anything wrapped in other things.

She loves lettuce wraps, spring rolls, sandwich wraps, burritos, enchiladas...

I'll have to keep these ideas handy for when DS gets older. Wait a minute, I'm going to try the one with chocolate now!!

Thanks for the great responses. I am looking for easy things to make & freeze for when baby #2 arrives. I'm def going to have to do some experimenting.

Chicky2: can you try posting this link again. I can seem to open it & when I do a search on mothering for enchilada I see nothing recent. Thanks.

The enchilada conversation was from yesterday... http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1199551

wraps by definition I think are anything that you can wrap and stuff, like cabagge and lettuce leaves. burritos (which are not mexican food I dont care what anyone says ) are just torrillas.

enchiladas are only supposed to be corn but people make things that they call enchiladas out of flour. in the last 15 or so years i have found them even in mexico so I guess they are made out of both now.

Just about anything that you toss in a tortilla can be called a "burrito". To learn how to roll one just watch someone at a good restaurant sometime. I recently improvised breakfast burritos out of egg beaters, monterey jack cheese, a can of black beans and some onion and bell pepper I had leftover from another meal. As for normal burritos you think of at a restaurant I don't make my own at home since I live in the SF Bay Area and I'm never more than a few blocks from a restaurant that can probably do it cheaper than it would cost me to buy all the stuff myself.

Burritos are one of the few things I make for my kids. I don't know how to make a lot of things! But I would say "yes" to your question. And, this may be off topic and not helpful but I recently figured out I could also make quesedillas with tortillas (duh?) - and I'm very proud of myself, because the kids LIKE them more than burritos and usually tend to EAT more of them. Melt a little butter in a pan, prepare a tortilla by spreading beans (or refried) and cheese, and whatever else, over one half of it, put it in pan, then fold over to close it. Brown it a bit on each side, and slice!

for me, a wrap is something that is made with cold, fresh ingredients, like raw veggies, cooked but cold meat like shredded chickens, steak.
A burrito is someting that is filled with warm, cooked foods, and then served warm.
