Hello!
My name is Shayna and I have not posted on MDC for a really long time.
I have 4 children, ages 10, 8, 6, and 2.5 and I have breastfed them all. In fact I have been lactating since I was 21 and I am now 32. I had one brief period between weaning my third child and becoming pregnant with my fourth but I don't think I even dried up completely. I weaned my 1st at 4, 2nd at 3.5, and third at 3.5, and am in the process of weaning my fourth at 2.5.
Weaning has never been a child led thing for us. It just was never something that any of my children seemed inclined towards initiating or leading.
I was a SAHM for about 6 years, and then due to a divorce went back to work. I had another baby with a new lover and started looking into going back to school to ensure the financial support of my family. I was a waitress for a pizza restaurant and wanted to do something more. I received a grant to study renewable energy and after waiting tables and going to school I now work at the local utility. It's tough for me as a mother to have had to be gone so much but the father of my youngest child is a SAHD and helps quite a bit.
Through all of this I tried pumping and couldn't make it work. So I just nursed him when I was home and managed to keep it up pretty well. Just recently I have decided I am ready to wean him. It is a little bit of an emotional situation but exciting at the same time. I was hoping to come here for a little support and understanding. I have done some time with the LLL and some of the support groups on this forum years ago sharing experience and support in breastfeeding and it was a great place for that.
Does MDC not support mother-lead weaning, or am I not looking in the right place?
