Help! Both ds's have rashes from our dipes

Both of my boys just developed rashes in the last two days. I'm sure it's from the diapers. Ds1 only wears a prefold at night, but he pees in it and is wet for most of the night. Ds2 is diapered all day and night and wears a combination of prefolds and Fuzzi Bunz.

We have a frontloader and I use Charlie's Soap to wash the dipes. I don't put anything else in the wash. I do a rinse, wash and rinse, and then an extra rinse. Ds2 has sensitive skin and will get rashes from new foods coming out in his poop (he recently started eating food), but Ds1 hasn't had a rash in ages. Which leads me to believe that the diapers aren't getting clean enough. Any suggestions for stripping them or killing yeast (or whatever the problem is) are much appreciated!

Adding white vinegar to the final rinse will kill off any yeasts living in your cloth dipes, I'm can't remember the exact amount though. HTH

I use CS as well and I once read that CS themselves have said there detergent may not be strong enough to kill all the bacteria in our diapers so to use bleach. I have used CS for a yr or so and just recently started having the same problems.

I put in 1 or 2 T of bleach every few weeks. Id start there, I know bleach is usually a no no on this sight but I had tried everything else with no luck.

Hopefully you find something that works for you.

Thanks for both of your replies. I started using vinegar in the final rinse and I'll see if that works. If it doesn't, I'll wash the prefolds separately with bleach. I don't think I can use bleach with the FBs.

If you only use a small amount every now and then it will be fine for the fb. (Ask me how I know lol) I also stop my washer on the hot wash with CS and let the dipes soak for 30 minutes or whenever I remember to restart them, and then after the soak is when I put the tiny amount of bleach in when needed.

I really do love the CS, So it is totally worth having to play around a bit to figure it out.

Tea tree oil in the wash cycle also kills yeast.
