Very cheap or free date/romantic night?

Thread Starter
Tonight is our (boyfriend + I) last free night before my son and sister come back home, and I would like to have some sort of romantic date night thing. We've been stressed, I've been sick, and we haven't actually gone out on a date in a really long time. There isn't any money to go out to a restaurant or anything, so I'm looking up ideas for something really cheap or free we could do besides sit around and watch movies or play video games. Aside from cooking a nice dinner, does anyone have other ideas? I'm running low on creativity at the moment but I'd love to figure out something fun and relaxing to try and offset all of the stress we've been having.

Thanks!

What's the weather like where you are? Can you do sometime outside like take a walk or have a picnic at a local park? How about a library or bookstore date? Or go browsing at an art gallery or low/no cost museum.

it totally depends on where you live, but i'm guessing there are fun free things to do everywhere. these are some of the free/cheap things i can think of around here - often something is free just on a specific day/night of the week, though.
planetarium
art museum
all kinds of other weird museums or historical stuff
live music (often free, or $2-$3 per person, plus you might want a soda or beer but that's cheap too)
hiking (in summer there are tons of things to do outside, but right now . . . not so much; eta: skiing, snowshoeing, skating, if you have the gear or can borrow)
picnic - my mom & step-dad's first date was a candlelight picnic in the snow, for valentine's day . . . in minnesota, brr! but it was romantic and we still hear about it
antique store
public movie screenings
scenic drive

i would check your newspaper's daily/weekly calendar for free events. also, craigslist.

If you have snow, sledding followed by hot cocoa would be fun. Outdoor skating would be fun for some people, but I'm too much of a clutz to enjoy it.

Do you live in or near a university town? Perhaps you can check the campus news to see what is happening for free.

I second the bookstore idea, too.

I'd make a nice picnic dinner, set up the bedroom with candles and music, and then have the picnic in bed. Followed by a long, leisurely evening... also in bed.

Recently dp and I have really enjoyed playing scrabble or jenga (soo much fun!). I second the idea for a local band somewhere. I love listening to music and so does dp. We also really enjoy going to the bookstore together, I guess that isn't that romantic...but we like it.

How about skipping the date and just having some good lovin??

Yep! I love this idea! I've never thought about a picnic IN BED! I will be trying this sometime soon...

Or drag the mattress/air mattress into the living room and have a picnic in bed, but in a different spot. That would be fun.
