SPD, ADD and school

DS is 4.5 and will be entering K next year. He will have to leave his small private school for a local charter due to cost. His Pre-K class is only 5 kids, he does well. His K class will be 23. I am concerned about how he will adjust. He usually does okay in crowds, but he has issues with impulse which get worse when he is overwhelmed. I am concerned he will be overwhelmed.

He is also in the process of being diagnosed with ADD. I am still on the fence on how I fell about a preschoolers diagnoses, but on the bright side he would be eligible for accommodations with the school if he does get this diagnosis.

How do other kids with SPD do in large class sizes? He is capable of all the work, he is reading and doing K math already.

His is starting OT next week so he will have about 6mo of weekly OT before school starts.

I have found that trying to match up with the right teacher, start communication with them prior to the school year starting (we usually meet in the month before school starts to keep his issues fresh in the teachers mind), and keeping communication open to be imperative. It isn't fail safe though. We have still had MAJOR situations, some of which have been handled well and some have not. And each year we have to evaluate what will be the best school situation for dc.
