Recurring fevers in 5 year old

Hi,

My 5 year old son has been having recurring fevers and sore throat and sometimes stomach pain for the past two months. The fever and sore throat will last for a couple of days or so and then he will have a break for a couple of weeks and then here comes the fever and sore throat again. I have taken him to the pediatrician and both times they put him on antibiotics and did a strep test but never called me to tell me one way or the other if it was strep. The pediatrician just always says it looks like it might could be strep.

I am so frustrated and I just don't know what to do. I do know that I need to find a new pediactrician. And that I will do. But in the meantime, can any of you give me some insight into what might be going on with my son for him to be having this every couple of weeks? Could he have reinfected himself with his toothbrush? Could it be that he has been outside with other kids in the cold weather and playing at an indoor playground and has just caught your regular cold and virus stuff?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Kristy

I'm sorry that your son has been so sick.
I can't think off of the top of my head what it could be but does he have anything wrong with his immune system?
As for being re-infected, (and I could very well be wrong), I thought that once exposed to a virus, your body creates an immunity to it. I'm guessing all viruses are different especially since there's all that talk of them mutating or whatever...

I would definitely find a new ped. if I was you.
Does he take vitamins? a healthy eater? wash his hands often? have any allergies?

I would try to think back to when he got his first cold in this chain of colds and see if something isn't triggering it.

Also, since he's been on antibiotics, did you follow up with probiotics to restore some of the good stuff in the body that the antibiotics kill? When my dd starts coming down with something, I give her extra healthy foods, lots of water and some immune system boosting stuff I got from our local health food store.

Good luck with everything. I hope he feels better soon.

Thank you MamaKye for your reply. You have some very good suggestions that I didn't think of. There could be something wrong with his immune system as he doesn't eat the best that he should. He does not take vitamins. Is there a good brand that you can recommend? I need to get him started on some.

I did not follow up with probiotics after he was on antibiotics so that is a very good idea. Thank you for telling me about that. Is there a probiotic that you might recommend?

I will definitely get a new pediatrician but in the meantime I will do what you suggested. Again, thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. Sometimes it helps to have someone else's perspective.
