Hot tub at 27 weeks

We are staying at a hotel tonight and there is a hottub. I have not idea how hot it is. Anyone know the rules on a nice short sit in a hottub this late in the game? I know I marinate for a long time in scalding tub at home and have with my last 2 pregnancies and have two healthy kiddos. I just wasn't sure if there was a hard and fast rule?

Generally your bath tub does not cover as much of your body as a hot tub does so your body is able to cool off using the exposed skin even while the other skin is heated up.

As far as I know the general rule is just not to let your body temp to get above 102. I don't know how long that takes, my hot tub stays are in a private tub that I can set to below 100 degrees so I can hang out in it much longer.

I went into a hot tub while in Whistler, mainly just with my legs and would dip the rest of my body in to warm it for a minute or so. My midwife said I could also take my temperature and make sure I wasn't getting too hot, but I felt pretty safe.

I went into a hot tub when I was 6 mo. pregnant with my first DD. The hot tub was just barely warm (hadn't been turned on for long) -- seriously, cooler than my baths I was taking all the time. So I figured it was safe. Nonetheless, I started having contractions and had to go to the hospital where they put me on Brethine to stop early labor. (This was over 20 years ago.) So be careful...

To me this is one of those things in pregnancy that I don't worry too much about. I went into hot tubs last pregnancy. I found that being pregnant I became uncomfortably hot much quicker. I just listened to my body and got out when I felt too hot to cool my body temp down. I frequently take really hot baths and never feel too overheated. I'd say enjoy the relaxation and just listen to your body. I don't think I could personally exceed 102 without noticing it.

This is one of those things where you always hear to be cautious and not to go into water above "xyz" temp (ive heard 99,100 101, 102). I myself have always just used my own best judgement. I havent been hottubbing too many times while pregnant, but on the occasions that I have, Ive just paid attention to my body. If I ever started feeling hot/sweaty/overheated, I got out, that simple. Also like one of the pp said, I have enjoyed scalding hot tub baths with all 6 of my pregnancies, im sure it was way hotter than a hot tub, and all of my LO's were just fine. Playing it safe is fine, but listening to your body is the best way to go, imo.

Yep, just listen to your body. I have gone in hot tubs for short amounts of time with all of my pregnancies. If I'm feeling warm, I get out and just put my legs in. On the occasions where I felt myself getting too hot, getting a bit lightheaded, I would go cool off in the pool. People give me a hard time, saying I'm "cooking the baby" but I just laugh and tell them that a bun needs heat to bake.

Watch to see if your brow gets beaded up with perspiration, just remember, your fetus cannot sweat and relieve the built up body temperature. So if you're getting hot enough to sweat, then it's probably too hot for the baby.

Well, considering the recommendation for birth tub temp is between 98 and 100, I'd say anywhere thereabouts I wouldn't worry about. Much higher than that, and I'd show discretion at how long you're in or how much of your body is immersed.
