question about maternal obstetrical history and being adopted

I've been thinking a lot about this because my first prenatal appointment is this Friday. I know that my midwife is going to want to get some information about my mom's obstetrical history. But I'm adopted and have no contact with biological parents. Is this going to be a big deal for a midwife? Especially since this is my first baby?

Anyone else in a similar situations? I wonder if there is someone I could contact to get this information since it is medical and not personal. Any ideas? TIA

I'm adopted and I've had 3 babies with both OB's and midwives. My lack of maternal medical history has never been an issue. I just told them I'm adopted and we moved on to the next question.

I'm not sure about obtaining those records - maybe someone else has some experience there.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

My mother was adopted with a closed adoption. She was able to go to the county where the adoption took place, and was given a copy of her file. All identifying information is blacked out, and usually the info is pretty limited. But it gives you something!

I'm not adopted, and have had 3 care providers (first pregnancy, I switched halfway through--there was one OB and 2 midwives), and I never had any of them ask. My sister is adopted, and never mentioned her OBs asking either.

Same here, they never asked me my mothers history. I don't think it really matters, to be honest.

My Mum is dead and I never got to ask her about these things. It's never been mentioned though.

Your mom's experience does not dictate yours.

The only thing I could think of is family health history overall--if there's diabetes in your family, you are at higher risk of GD, if there's hypertension, you might be at higher risk for PIH, etc.

These are all underlying 'normal' conditions that can present during pregnancy. Pretty much, if you get gestational diabetes, for example, odds are very high you will develop diabetes later on in life. It just exposes the 'weakness' in your system.

There does seem to be a strong familial/genetic link (both maternal and paternal) to pre-e as well, even without underlying hypertension. So that's one piece of obstetric history that might be relevant.
