How often do you go without eating fruit/veg? - Page 2

I think there is good stuff in them, I just don't feel it's nessicary. I think that there are a lot of other sources of most stuff. (and as for the enzyme rich fruit, for some reason, I can't eat any of them. pineapples, kiwis, papayas. I think mangos and avocados are about the only ones of the really enzyme rich tropical fruit I can eat.) there are enzymes in a lot of things. It's possible that there are some very valuable things only in fruits, however I don't think that they are vital to eat year round. they can't possibly be things we need to eat all the time, since we have never until now had a year round source of most fruits, except perhaps some dried fruit.

Almost everyone likes in season fruit enough to get enough of anything vital in fruits, imo. It's not one of those food groups that needs stressing over.

Well I will admit to having gone longer!

I think the longest I have EVER gone would be two days- if it happened to be a day where I ate oatmeal for breakfast, a tuna sandwish for lunch, and a pork chop & pierogis or something for dinner, I would have not eaten fruit or veg, but neither would I have eaten bad food.

Generally we eat them every day, but not 4 - 5 servings a day! I am not actually one that believes the sheer volume of the stuff is necessary, although it is preferable to grain products for sure.

See this is and always has been more my diet type. Although now I do try to add fruits and veggies in with it. It's lazyness I guess, its so easy to grab a slice of toast for breakfast, cook a quick bowl of pasta for lunch or a bowl of cereal etc. Then maybe hot dogs for dinner, again bread, or a different pasta dish which maybe had some tomato sauce as far as a vegetable...

Plus starchy foods seem to be very filling which is good. Maybe I should try replacing some of them with veggie based meal ideas though, since they are healthier?

We eat tons of fruits and veggies every day, but we're grain free, so perhaps that accounts for part of it.

We eat fruit 2-3 times a day and veggies 2-3 times a day, our portions of both are probably 2 servings at a sitting. I eat my salad in a mixing bowl! lol We live in Northern California, and I get it at our year round Farmer's Market.

Usually I have a fruit or veggie at each meal. I considered yesterday a bad day when the only time I had them was in my morning green smoothie. The rest of the day was filled with toast, PB, yogurt, pasta and chicken.

Sometimes, I go a day without eating any (today is shaping up that way *sigh*), but not very often. It's usually when I'm sick or otherwise not feeling well. Today, my back is killing me, and I don't want to stand at the counter, chopping or prepping. I have eaten part of a banana, though...mashed it up for dd2, and she only ate a little bit.

I love most veggies, and most fruits. If I include my 2-3 cups of spring mix at dinner...most days...I probably eat about 7 or 8 servings a day - except days like today.

I ate mostly grain foods, pasta and bread for years when I was single, but it was certainly not good for me!
Now I often add vegetables to our spelt pasta, for instance steamed broccoli, or chopped up spinach or kale. If I make a tomato sauce, I'll add grated carrots along with the onion. It might be a bit decadent, but I find the prewashed salads very helpful on a busy day!

We eat veggies and fruits every day. We eat frozen berries in the winter (what a treat! I found a co-op w/organic berries for CHEAP), and apples an oranges and bananas. In the summer it's ALOT of fruit because we need the water in them in addition to all the water we drink-it's HOT here for a LONG time. Veggies come from the garden in the spring and summer, and we buy tons of root veggies and greens in the winter if I haven't put by enough to last. I cannot imagine going even one day w/out my veggies.

My 11 yo dd just asked if she could have meat loaf and sweet potatoes for her in between breakfast and lunch snack (growth spurt bigtime).
