Can you use a cute printed pattern with PUL as a middle layer?

I have so many cute cotton knit and flannel prints that I've used for fitteds but they just get hidden by the cover. All my PUL is solid because print PUL is so much more expensive.

Would it be possible to do a pocket or AIO/AI2 with a layer of microfleece on the inside, a layer of PUL to make it waterproof, and then a layer of cotton knit/flannel to add a cute print to the outside? I assume I would have to use some kind of binding - would FOE work? Has anyone tried something like this?

I tried a fuzzibunz style diaper that way. I put a cotton print on the outside, PUL in the middle, and microfiber for the inner. I sewed it with polyester thread.

It worked ok. It didn't leak right off but it wouldn't last as long as a regular diaper because it would start wicking if it got soaked.
