i have an Amazon gift card, and i was looking at the Rebecca Rupp resource book, which i have seen recommended here. it looks AWESOME. but it was also published in 1998, and since homeschooling has grown so much in 12 years i was wondering if anyone knows if there's an updated version, or one in the works?

I have the 2000 version but I am not sure if it has been updated since that date. You might could try a google search. I am sorry I was not much help.

I'm sure it hasn't been updated in a very long time if at all. It would be quite a project, and maybe the publishers just haven't found the market big enough to support it. I think it would be a good book to have anyway - at 865 pages, there's an awful lot there that doesn't need updating, and a lot is about her own interesting and inspiring experiences in homeschooling her three sons. You'd mostly just have to take it from there on your own to find out what's new since its publication, and people do tend to look around on their own a lot in spite of what they've found or read in any one source. Website addresses will be the big things, since many of the resources discussed didn't even have websites when it was written and many addresses have changed - but it's not hard to google the things you're interested in and make your own set of bookmarks. You can get a pretty good rate on Amazon, and you can Search inside it on their site for things you're particularly concerned about to see what you think about how well it will work for you: The Complete Home Learning Source Book: The Essential Resource Guide for Homeschoolers, Parents, and Educators Covering Every Subject from Arithmetic to Zoology, by Rebecca Rupp. Lillian

It is a great book. I don't know if they are planning on updating it but we have found it very useful.

I checked it out from the library before purchasing it.

Of course a lot has happened in ten years but I still found it to be full of valuable information. You might look into a used copy.

I think I wanted to email her last spring to ask if she planned on updating, but if I recall, I found it hard to find her email address. Maybe I should try again...

Love her books, it's what made me realize that homeschooling could be so much fun and interesting! She also made me wonder if I could afford to do all the cool things that she and her 3 boys have done with all the stuff they've purchased though... Anyway, she is a big inspiration to my blog, making things fun and hands-on.

not sure if you can use the amazon gift card for used books on amazon...it doubt it. i'd buy her book USED on amazon for just a few dollars, and use the gift card for other new homeschooling books on amazon that are newer and can't be purchased used very inexpensively yet

I make a pratice to get all my homeschool books via ILL before i buy them. then i know for sure what i want to buy --

and also then i can feel free to request more books, i might like, or tha ti think look intresting, knowing it is jsut a loan and i am not buying it -- i have found some great ones that way that if i had to jsut buy cold i doubt i would have riksed.
