epson salts bath?

Does an epson salts bath help with discomfort of normal separation?

No sooner did I post a comment on another thread that my intact nearly 2 1/2 yr old has never had a problem with his foreskin before and the next day, he is in a little discomfort and slightly red.. I'm thinking it must be the normal separation that is common at this age. I've read it should pass in a day or two. My memory was jogged and I do recall he experienced this once before and it passed rather quickly which is why I had forgotten about it.

Is there a type of bath that would help him (hurt less) whenever this happens and if so can someone direct me to a page or just describe what you do for your son here?

His scrotum looked a little red and I put a tiny bit of burts bees diaper cream on it but Im not real sure if that is related or not -he seems especially sensitive in the area and saying it hurts but I dont see anything much so am assuming this is normal separation trauma - hope thats the correct term.

Also how often can I expect this to happen? For those who have sons who have begun around this age, does it occur every so often , such as , every few months or ?? what can I expect as far as frequency? the last one was perhaps 8 or 9 months ago, I can't even remember actually but I think it was gone in a few days.

I am not sure about salts. I don't think I would try that but I heard baking soda works well. Frequency can be hard to judge because everyone follows a different path. I think most don't get it but once or twice.

DS went through this maybe 3 times. Only the first really bothered him and it lasted for less than a day. We just did a warm bath with no soap or salts, although I do think epsom salts would help.

Anytime my intact 2 1/2 year old looked a little redder than average anywhere in the diaper area I put a little baking soda in his bath. (DD likes baking soda too.) Works like a charm!

DS has already had a few periods of redness on the tip of his foreskin. He will be red for about 24 hours or so. It happens maybe every 2 months or so. Not what I would call frequently but regularly enough that I notice. It appears to me that his foreskin is loosening up, although he does not appear to be retractable.

How much baking soda do you use for a half full bathtub? Is it like a litter box where you should just dump the whole box in, or should you only use like a tablespoon or something? lol I was thinking of using half a box or a box, but is this too much? How much does everyone else use?

ds loves epsom salt in his bath. he uses around 1/2 - 1 cup in a tub usually. i can't honestly say i have any idea when he started to separate, though. i never paid that much attention. it hadn't yet when he started washing it himself as a toddler...it was mostly separated when he had all his questions at 8...separation issues may or may not have anything to do with his love of epsom at 11. lol (personally, i don't get it. it just makes the bottom of the tub gritty...but he swears by the stuff. says it's relaxing and makes him feel better if he's got an injury or coming down with something.)

don't have the foggiest about baking soda in a bath though, but mixing it with water to make a paste is great on rashes and infections and such usually. it draws out the toxins the same way it draws the nasty smells in the fridge.

No, only 1/4 cup!
