Severe food allergies and vaxes

Thread Starter
So my 3.5 year old daughter has all of her vaxes up to date but Prevnar (she won't be getting any more of it), MMR and varicella.

She has not had a vaccine since her 18 month visit when she got her final one.

We did a religious exemption to get her into preschool this year.

My 14 month old son has no vaccines at all. We were not going to start him until he was a year old, but in the first year, we discovered he has some pretty bad allergies. We thought it was milk and a few others that he tested positive for but now know its worse and its milk, egg, peanut, dog, avocado, banana, green beans and more.

Do any of you mamas have any experience with this?

Any advice/help is appreciated.

Thanks.

My 22 month old unvaxed son has multiple allergies. I see this as even more of a reason NOT to vax. I shudder to think how much more severe his allergies/issues would be if I had pumped him full of that stuff!

You might want to Search in the Allergies forum. There are parents there who feel that the vaccinations their children received contributed to their allergies, some of which are anaphalactic reactions.

In general, it doesn't seem like a good idea to vaccinate a child who's already having immune system problems.

You may also want to read a bit on folate intake, and genetic variation in individuals' need for folate, and how that relates to IgE allergies.

One place to start...

I thought several vaccines had egg, milk and peanuts in them?

Some of the viruses are grown in chick embryos...cow milk proteins are in several vaccines such as the DTaP and does anyone have the article on peanuts???

Tanya...that was very inetresting, but it seems that much of the problems that may be occuring in kids and the population in terms of the type of nutritional deficiencies etc will only be identified with genetic testing or other unorthodox tests which are out of reach financially for the average joe. We are going through this now with DS. I know he has digestive/allergy issues. The ped did 1 blood test that came back as everything is fine except he has a soy allergy and putthe issue to rest. Sorry I don't buy it. I am now pursuing some testing at a private lab, including genetic testing for celiacs. All very $$$. Our system is not designed to support parents who are seeking alternatives to mainstream. So frustrating!!

Sometimes testing is required, and that's a bummer, especially when there's no help from insurance (and all the other things said people are doing are also likely self-pay HCPs and supplements), but sometimes the family health history can be either so strongly suggestive of an issue like MTHFR or celiac, or totally lacking that pattern, that reasonable assumptions can be made.

Strokes, cancers, early heart disease, high homocysteine, serious midline defects--none of that in my family, and not much by way of digestive issues given poor eating and the issue I know about, which is our problem with mercury. So for me, I feel safe in assuming that MTHFR and celiac aren't in play for us. Other people, who _do_ see a pattern, may do best just assuming that they have a high need for folate (real folate, not folic acid) and supporting their methylation accordingly.

The methylation part, though, still needs folate (and B12!), and ours (in my family) has definitely been stressed for a few generations now. I think we'd be in worse shape, and my kids obviously sick, with diagnoses, had either MTHFR or celiac been our issue.
