changing table challenges

My 8 month old DD is a squirmy wormy. In fact she's so squirmy that the second i put her on the table she flips and crawls away. I really feel bad holding her down and can't even if i tried. A. I don't want to hurt her and B. why does she need to do it my way?
But it makes it really tough to clean her and get her diaper on straight. I have toys for her to play with (i rotate them hourly) that she can grab and a mobile over her head that I twirl for her....sigh...
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Other mamas have had luck with giving a piece of tape

By that age for us, pretty much all changes were done holding her standing up.

At that point I just learned to do it fast. If she does not want to hold still for wipes after poopy diapers, could you just do a quick washup of her bum in the sink?

With my older dd, I did it fast and on the floor. Sometimes she really didn't mind if I put one leg over her if I was singing to her and acting goofy. If she protested, then I'd just do my best. It only lasted for a little while. Once she could stand while holding on, I'd change her standing up if she was just wet.

I change her on our queen size bed with a big hospital soaker pad underneath her. Once the diaper is off, I feel okay letting her roll around a bit under my supervision. It helps to give her diaper-free time also and air out her butt. She rarely pees on the bed and when she does the soaker pad catches it 98% of the time. Usually a little rolling around will help me to eventually get the diaper on when I need to. If not, then I use a toy and goofy faces to distract her. Most of the time, diaper changes are tearless.
