Club Penguin

Hi there,
Do you let your kids play Club Penguin? What have been your experiences with it?

My 7 yo DD loves it and I'm thinking of getting her a prepaid monthly card at CVS that she buys with her own money.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Thanks!

I'm just learning too---but it's a virtual online game that many kids are really into: http://play.clubpenguin.com/

You can play all sorts of games with a custom made penguin and interact with other players.

my 6 yo plays it a lot. I do not find it ideal, but most of my ideals went out the window years ago when other people starting interfering. There is protected chat which we use, so she can only choose from the drop down menu what to say. She often asks for us to upgrade her membership to a paid one, but we draw the line there. only free things on computer. Not sure what the CVS card has to do with the question? yesterday her aunt that she talks to weekly and has secret games and fantasy play with made an account on club penguin and they played on there and pixie hollow together. I have played on club penguin with her too i must admit... we have more than 1 computer... it was fun

DD just asked me if she could set up an account... but I'm really not sure it's worth the cost. Is there any way to try it for free? Her best friend plays it, and keeps begging her to sign up. She'll be 9 next month, BTW.

Dd8 is allowed to play but she has to use her own $, I think it's $6 a month. I don't see anything objectionable about it unless you don't do disney. There aren't any ads but that is where the membership fee goes.

Alright, so DD just convinced me to sign her up. I paid through paypal (b/c I don't think it's reoccuring this way). So far she and her BFF have been playing it together (well, from across the street - and communicating via chat, text, and phone calls - LOL).

Thank u for the replies. She bought a prepaid card from CVS today with her own $ and is having a blast with all of the "member upgrades".

The site allows you to play for free, and if you're interested, you can buy a membership for more benefits. It really is cute in small doses.

She is a happy bee.

Glad she is loving it (my DD is, too). She played around with the free stuff but her friend kept saying buy this and that (with points, I guess?) and you have to have the membership to do all that. My 7 yr old DS has been playing as well... but luckily he is content with the free stuff at this point.
