Quick question for you container gardeners

Due to the fact that we're living on rented property this year and I can't do my in-the-ground gardening, I am going to try my hand at container gardening. I know there is lots of information on this site and all over the web about the subject; I'm just wondering if those of you who have tried it have bought special seeds for your plants (veggies). I don't have a lot of time or money to buy fancy container variety seeds, but that being said, if it's just not worth it to grow, say, regular tomatoes because they really need deep roots or something, I would consider buying some specialty kind.

Appreciating your wisdom!

I've grown several bush variety of tomatoes in 5 gallon paint buckets.

I am going to start the 2010 containter gardening thread and will post the link here.

I think what you might be looking for is "determinate" plants, or plants that will only grow to a certain size. These seeds should be the same cost as indeterminate seeds.

However, I use techniques in the book, "Square Foot Gardening" and don't worry about in/determinate.
