Compost bin ideas (no yard)

We used to always compost and have a big bin in the yard, but this past summer we moved to a townhouse with a homeowners association so we have a small patio out back and a balcony, plus a small area for planting, but officially, they don't allow compost bins.

We were thinking of getting a small tumbler of some sort and either hiding it behind some plants or putting it on the balcony so it is out of direct view. Or keeping it in the garage, though I'm not sure how well it will decompose there. Worm bins seem to work for some, but I'd keep that as a last resort. I also noticed you can get an indoor compost bin that makes compost in 2 weeks (naturemill). it sounds a bit gimmicky to me, like something that would break in 6 months or something. Any thoughts? I'm just so sick of throwing our food waste in the trash.

I know you don't want a worm bin, but I think you would really enjoy the can-o-worms. You can have it inside, I've had one in the kitchen and the basement. I noticed though its better to shred the newspaper you put on top of them after you put scraps in. They use it up better that way.

I have seen compost bins you can put in a drawer. I don't know where you would find one though. HTH

This is not something I've ever tried, but I've read great things about bokashi composting, and it sounds like it would be just perfect for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokashi_composting
