Queer & Pregnant: March, April & May 2010 - Page 8

Wow Samantha, another girl! Congrats. We decided not to find out the sex and now that the opportunity has passed I'm suddenly curious. : )

congrats on your baby girl samantha!

megan - we didn't find out with ds1 - although we both firmly believed he was a boy. dp wanted to find out when it was her turn and again we both thought ds2 was a boy. we are 2 for 2, lol! i have tried to convince dp to keep #3 a surprise when we get there but i don't think she'll go for it! she says she'll need advance warning if we are going to be the parents of 3 boys.

wherli - YAY!!!! Welcome!!!!

papa - I second the request for belly pics.

mkpgoddess - Aw, a sweet baby girl! Congrats!

AFM - First, behold my overachieving 15-week belly. I'm 4 months preggo and look six... but I could care less! I'm loving it and amazingly have gained only 1 lb. since my first MW appointment at 6 weeks. How is this possible? I just don't get it. But, I'm happy about it, so whatever.

Also, DP met the midwife for the first time on Tuesday and really liked her, so that was great. And, we heard the heartbeat with the Doppler, which was music to my ears!

Our big anatomy scan is at 18w1d on 4/30, and we're so psyched to find out if it's Sophie or James swimming around in there! Also, the appointment is with a peri, so we'll be able to talk with the tech about what s/he sees (as opposed to having to wait to see the midwife again for "results") which is cool. I was originally just as happy to go to the radiologist, but the midwife convinced me that we'd get more experienced techs (important since it'll still be on the early end for an anatomy scan, but we really want to know sex), better pics, and more info this way. So, I complied.

Hope everyone is enjoying spring! I know I am!

Wehrli - WHOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I'm so thrilled for you!!!!

Megan - I bet if you asked, you could get a quickie ultrasound. But, I do think there is something awesome about waiting and adding to the moment of birth. For us, we're just not that patient and frankly, I'm really, really glad we found out because I've had to process "this is not a boy, this is Cate" which I'd rather do in advance. The funny thing is that these two girls are completely different seasons (DD 1 was born in December with snow on the ground, this one end of Aug/Sept in the dead of summer) so we'll have to do a little maneuvering. I expect mostly nudity with a diaper, a pair of underwear and perhaps a mei tai between the two of us in the first weeks!

Lyndzies - you are too cute and look amazing. Way to go, mama!!

This May Be It!

Congrat's on the new BFPs!!

I am sitting on my birthing ball, at 1:30 in the morning with heartburn and contractions

Oh, and just had bloody show--hmmm, not sure what the emoticon that best conveys that one is.

If this is practice labor I'm going to be

Somehow I don't think it is--38 weeks 2 days here. Apparently I'm not meant to be at the LAST baby shower on Sunday (or preach than either )

Just debating calling the OB...my favorite is on call this weekend and when I told her on Monday I was on the rota for preaching Sunday with a post-church baby shower that I wasn't looking forward to (just didn't have the energy for shower #4!) she said "well I'm on call this weekend and if you have the baby then we'll have a good laugh about it!"

So send prayers and ELV (never sure if that's easy or early labour vibes) towards the midwest. Hopefully we'll meet our little guy sometime in the next 24 hours or so

wishin'&hopin' sending ELV your way (that's easy I think!) and it sounds like this may be the real deal. Go to bed now if you can and get as much rest as you can while you can until things really get cooking. Hope you get to miss that shower!

wishin'&hopin' - Thinking of you and sending you the best vibes.

painefaria - I'm so sorry. I had to say goodbye to this board once before and it was the worst time in my life. I hope you are kind to yourself, tap into your support system, and that we see you again when you are ready. Lots of love and healing.

We found out on Friday that our bumble is a GIRL!
We're so surprised, we had both been thinking boy all along, so it was quite a shock! We're thrilled, though! Everything looks perfect in there!!

Osker - Congrats on your little girl! We thought the exact thing, that we were having a boy (this pregnancy is soooooooooo different from our last) and were rather stunned to see three little lines on the ultrasound. But, YAY! Girls are so much fun!

Greetings from the land of prodromal labor

to you Painefaria...

No baby yet...guess the appropriate response to the 4 days of prodromal labor (contractions 5 minutes apart for hours, check; bloody show, check; contractions painful enough to wake me, check) is

When we went to L&D tho' they were super nice and affirmed that, yes, the contractions were 5 minutes apart and once they established that mr. mellow yellow (his new nickname, they had to have me drink ice water to get him to move and his heart rate is the low end of normal--but healthy) was okay they sent us home.

So we made it to the church baby shower--they really went above and beyond. We suggested a book shower and we had NO repeats on books and they were all thoughtfully and lovingly chosen. I can seriously recommend a children's book shower to those blessed with an over abundance of showers. We felt very

So, I sent DW to work today and promised to call her if anything more exciting than practice labor kicks up. But, I'm officially on maternity leave (no staff meeting an hour from home today--woo hoo!) and will be trying to figure out how to spend my day.

Peace and hugs to all those in this waiting for the take home baby journey...
