Queer & Pregnant: March, April & May 2010 - Page 2

quasar- YAY for the heartbeat! Too bad the appt was so stressful, though.

erthe mama- yeah, post 'em!!

Papa- Woohoo for no more progesterone!!!

AFM- I'm also super tired! I hate taking naps. Never do it. Until Sunday. I napped for 3 hours! I'm a night owl and hate going to bed early (before midnight) but Monday night I fell asleep on the couch at 8pm and then went in to bed at 9pm, then slept til 7am and was STILL tired all day at work yesterday. Last night I went to bed at 10:30, which isn't that early, I guess. I guess I have to get used to this, huh?

Hmm, I copied and pasted this post from the Feb board. Clearly I missed that we're now nearly 1/2 way through March! I'll have to get caught up now.

::

Where is everyone? Probably busy like me. But, I miss you all so wanted to check in.

I'm at 16 weeks today and can hardly believe how fast this pregnancy is going. Baby's heartbeat sounds strong and healthy and I'm measuring right on track. Our big ultrasound is 3/29 which will be here before we know it. I'm really looking forward to it, without all the anxiety I had before the one at 11 weeks. I've been nesting kind of like crazy. Not total, but I've been cleaning out closets, rearranging furniture and wanting to pull out baby stuff from the attic before I'm too big to climb the ladder. Now that my anxiety is gone, I'm feeling the countdown to baby and there's so much to do.

I'm also starting to be excited to buy things for this baby. We don't need much being number 2 but had/have some things we want/need. We picked up a whole bunch of used fitted diapers that I'm really excited about. With DS we had pretty much had only prefolds for the first year. So, these will be fun!

This week we are getting DS a "big boy bed". He still sleeps in our bed and we won't push him out but we'd like him to have a bed he can sleep in when he decides he's ready. In the meantime, it'll be a fun place to play since it's a loft bed and then there will be room to play under it. I think we'll get a curtain so he can hide in there and have alone time if needed once the new baby comes. And, my mom may stay with us for a few weeks after the baby is born so she'll have a bed to sleep in!

Still feel like I'm feeling the baby move but it's still a pretty rare occurrence. Looking forward to it being stronger and regular.

How is everyone else?

Megan, I can't believe you guys are ready for a big boy bed already! I've seen some really cute loft beds done to look like forts or ships or things like that underneath. Maybe DS would get excited about a little reading nook of his own! I know I'd love one... ah, to get away from it all....

Luckily we are getting away from it all! We'll be 17 weeks tomorrow and are headed off on our big "babymoon" cruise! We're SO excited! Fun in the sun and spending time with our best friends who live on the other side of the world. It's their turn to come this way, so we'll be sunning it up all next week!
Hooray!

Then, when we get back, we have the big 20 week (21 in our case) ultrasound to take our first and only peek at this little one and find out if it's going to want to wear green or orange! ( j/k )

I cannot believe how fast this is going by either!!! Good heavens!

Yes, a reading nook sounds super nice! I'm so jealous of your babymoon. We had a much more scaled down one last time but now we have no money for such a thing. I'll just have to live vicariasouly though you I guess!

So, does that mean you won't be finding out the gender at the u/s? Oh my gosh, it's going to be so much fun since it'll be your first peek at your babe!

Cute baby bump!!!!

I hearing everyone's happy news! I'm at 34 weeks (!) and with spring clothing am garnering quite the commentary out and about (mostly of the "when are you due" variety!). It's really interesting to me how FRIENDLY strangers suddenly are--even when I'm walking our pitty looking mix--we've gone from "muzzle that dog" (yes, folks have told us to muzzle the poor guy, he's scared of his own shadow and LOVES other dogs and children) to smiles as I waddle along next to him along with lots of requests to pet that "smiley dog". Go figure

I also had an elderly woman hold a door open for me Good thing she didn't see me hauling the vacuum up the stairs at home today!

Otherwise, I'm feeling good (great actually, I had a horrific back thing last week and with muscle relaxants and great prenatal massage I am now back in action) and getting excited to meet our little guy.

Our baby shower is this Saturday and despite my hesitation...(I'm kinda worried that we'll get boxes of sposies when we've made it clear that we're exclusively cloth diapering) I'm really looking forward to it. We'll have 4 family members staying in our wee home (with one bathroom) for the weekend (note the hauling the vacuum upstairs bit).

I hope everyone keeps doing well! Fingers crossed for all as we await the complete upheaval (or continued upheaval!) of our lives!!

wishin'&hopin', hope you have a really fun baby shower and don't get a single sposie!

love the pics, megan!

mostly an aside: my son's school had a pride assembly/all school meeting today. he was one of the mc's, which was fabulous. but most importantly, they showed the "don't divorce us" video from the courage campaign, and monarchgrrl and her wife were in it (at least i'm 99% sure). too cool!!!!! the video made me bawl. beautiful. and that they showed it at my kiddo's school?!?!?! too fabulous. we are so lucky.

be well all,
megin

megincl- Yep, that's us! How awesome that that was shown at your son's school!

megan sacha- Cute belly pics!!!

wishin & hopin- for a great baby shower w/ no sposies!! Have fun!

osker- have a wonderful time on your cruise!!

AFM- we saw the heartbeat yesterday! That was awesome! It seems so much more real now.

Hi all,

We're just hanging out, getting bigger at 15 weeks. We're scheduled for our ultrasound 4/8...it was supposed to be 3/30 but work screwed up and we have rehearsal that day and I can't get out of it. Oh well. We are super excited to find out how this little one is doing and the gender so we can go ahead and NAME this baby!! I've been feeling the flutters off and on and have also started (way, way, way super early) the Hypnobabies program. I completely love it and am excited for labor (although grateful that I have MANY weeks ahead of me before THAT happens )

Megan - cute belly!! YAY for big boy beds!! DD's big girl bed was the best thing we ever did...somehow it gave her a ton of independence and she loves it. IKEA does some really cool bed arrangements that aren't too expensive.

Wishin'&Hopin' - hope tomorrow is fantastic and nary a sposie in sight!

Monarchgrrl - YAY for the heartbeat!! It's one of the best parts!!!

How is everyone else??

it's lovely to hear that everyone is doing so well and things are progressing wonderfully! good luck to all those ultrasounds - very exciting.

afm, i feel like i am as big as a house all of a sudden - i think we have just had a little growth spurt in the little man. i'm only 25 weeks so i can't imagine what i will look like when i'm REALLY as big as a house - oh my!?

dp and i are getting married next week so we are crazy with planning everything. march would not be my chosen time for a wedding, but it is important to us that she is on the birth certificate at birth - one of the wonderful things about living in massachuestts

FtMPapa:Hope your u/s goes super well!! Yay for making it to 10wks!!

mkpgoddess: Cool! We plan to do hypnobabies as well. ;D

Wow, jjnoho, it's so cool you can put DP on the birth certificate at birth if you're married! Our lawyer says, technically we can do that here, but it's not legally binding, and we really should do a 2nd parent adoption.

AFM: I'll try and post the cervix pics, but I'm having trouble finding the cord to connect my camera to the computer. We moved in January... still can't find everything. Ugh. DP figured out that she only vurps when she eats to many carbs without something to balance it out. Her nipples are getting BIG and DARK. Should I post pics of those too? joking
post #34 of 310
jjnoho, congrats on getting married! We need to get "domestic partnered" since WA just gave a LOT more rights to this category in December through Ref 71. We actually have all the same rights as marriage now, just called DP. So, we'll be able to both be on the birth certificate this time, which is cool. But, we'll definitely still do a 2nd parent adoption, which will cost us over $2,000. Ugh.

jjnoho - Congrats on getting married!!! We were married here in CA during the brief window that it was legal (and glad because it still has to be recognized). It's really cool when you can call your new spouse "wife/husband" and it's really legally true!!

We too will have both our names on the birth certificate for this one and DW is considered DD's "stepmom" (which is kind of crap because she knocked me up with her just as much as with this one and is just as much a true-if-not-bio parent to both) yet we will also need to do the 2nd parent adoption in case we ever travel outside of CA. We wanted to wait until both kids were here because apparently the CA courts aren't particularly concerned about moving quickly with this type of adoption and it is expensive. :sigh:

That's nice that you'll only have to pay for the adoption one time. We had to do ours separately because it was a different mom adopting each time, plus, with using a known donor, we wouldn't have wanted to wait this long to completely sever any rights anyone could construe him to have.
Megan - that makes absolute sense. In your shoes, we would have done the exact same thing. I carried both times though and we used an anonymous donor who wasn't interested in identity release, so we won't (hopefully) have too many hurdles with that. It does make me a little nervous since I'm not sure we have all the paperwork from 2006....
Just chiming in that although DP and I have a civil union in New Jersey and technically we CAN put her on the birth cert as the other parent, our lawyer has advised us not to, since it may cause unnecessary confusion/hoop jumping when we go to do the 2nd parent adoption and have KD sever his parental rights. Just food for thought. We've been advised to just leave it blank, and we'll have an amended one reissued when the adoption is complete.

All that said...

jjnoho - Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!!!

megan sacha - cute belly!!

megincl - that vid makes me cry; every time.

mkpgoddess
- so glad to hear you're loving hypnobabies! I get my (borrowed) home study course this weekend!

erthe_mama - the cervix pics sound neat. Re: darkening nips... I'm wondering if I'm going to "get out" of that lovely bodily change? I'm about 12 weeks, and no darkening yet. I'm very fair-skinned, though. Wonder if that has something to do w/ it??

osker - hope you're having a marvelous babymoon!!!

Papa - yay for 10 weeks! I've got my 12 week scan this Thursday... when's yours??

sorry to anyone I forgot... my mind is not as sharp as it used to be. Lol.

AFM - not much to report. I've been having a rough week, I think. In this limbo between no nausea anymore, and no real symptoms besides extreme thirst, peeing a lot, and some occasional RLP... but also no feeling the baby and no "real" signs that I'm pregnant besides my large belly.... and I'm just dying waiting for my u/s on Thursday to see the wee one. I just hope everything is okay.

I feel like this pre- second tri limbo is really nerve wracking. Luckily I will get to see the babe on Thursday (12 weeks) and then only have another week to go before I can say I've made it through a third of the pregnancy.

Anyone else have a rough time making it through weeks 11-13 ish? When did you all start to feel movement?

I think I'm so paranoid, because there are still losses happening in my DDC, and it's making me nuts-o. My practical mind knows that everything is VERY likely fine, but the neurotic part of me takes over sometimes. Lol.
Lyndzies - Congrats on getting through your first trimester!! So glad you are getting your home study!!! I'm doing Week 1 until 26 weeks and then moving forward with the other classes two weeks at a time until maintenance. I was really worried about getting burned out on it/bored with it and this is what the moderator of the Yahoo Hypnobabies forum suggested.

Completely hear you about the no man's land between all the 1st tri symptoms and 2nd tri kicking. I'm still hanging out there at 15 weeks and my second child!! I have felt the baby (I think? maybe?) but it's soooooo sporadic and never really repeated enough for me to say that it's definitely the babe. It's enough to drive me mad. I'm really, really looking forward to my next appt on the 22nd to hear the heartbeat again and then my ultrasound at 19 weeks on the 8th. I was definitely feeling kicks with DD by 19 weeks when we had her ultrasound so I'm hoping that it's any day now?!?!

that was a difficult time for me. i didn't like feeling queasy all of the time but there was something reassuring that i was still pregnant. when that went away around 13 weeks, i was nervous something had happened!

movement didn't start for me to the point that i was able to identify it as the baby until 19 weeks. i had maybe a handful of 'weird' feelings for a couple of weeks prior but they were too far apart to really be able to say 'yep that's it'. of course the more they happened the more convinced i became. and once it became regular, he learned how to go for the gold within a couple of days and then dp was able to feel it as well within that same week. that was really neat for her to be able to feel it and become a part of the pregnancy more. now we can both lie there and watch my belly jump around! i'm having flashbacks to watching sigourney weaver in aliens - anyone else remember that scene??
