How much is a box of maxipads?

I've been using cloth pads for the last 7 years but I'm going to need post-partum pads in about 2-3 weeks. I'm old, so this is my last kid. I really like the sweetcheeks moon pads, but I'm looking at spending $50 on pads and it seems like a LOT of money. Used pads squick me out, so that's out of the question.

honestly they are not that much. $3-$7 depending on brand and what size box you get. really you probably only need one small package of super duper pads and then the cloth you have should be sufficient. I only bleed heavy for a few hours after birth and then it is like a normal period (usually shorter).

I think it's about $6 or so for 20-24. I only buy them when we are on trips. We CDed on trips but never MCed.

You can also make your own from things like old cotton sweatshirts and t-shirts if you can sew a little.

I've known some people to use folded pre-folds for PP bleading until it slows down a bit, and I actually spent at least part of each of the first few days without undies or a pad and just sat on extra underpads from my birth kit. My midwives actually suggested this. I put on undies and a pad when I was going to move around a bit - like eating at the table and such.

REALLY? I swear I bled heavy for 6 weeks last time. I remember thinking that it was incredible that women went back to work after 6-weeks leave, because I felt like I was still really bleeding with a lot of odor, and basically in no condition to return to my cushy office work job. It got better immediately after that. I do sew, but I just like the Sweetcheeks moon pads with the malden mills fleece. I have 2 other brands of cloth pads and I don't like them at all.

Thanks for the input. I switched to cloth right after my last baby. I remember hairs getting stuck in the glue strip and thinking it was awful, hot, sticky and there HAD to be a better way.

When I used disposable, I preferred Stayfree w/ Wings (ultra long nighttime kind). For a bigger pack of around 25 it's $4.99 approximately (as of a year ago, as I do keep some in the house for whatever reason).

Like a PP, I bleed heavily for a day after birth and then it slows to a light AF-like period for just under a week and then stops. But I realize I am lucky, I guess. I plan on using some disposables (the big big hospital pads) after this next birth, and then switching to my cloth ones around 2-3 days PP.

i guess it might depend on what a normal period is for you..... I have really heavy periods normally that last 2-3 days and then light flow/spotting for about another 4 or 5 days. I was blow away when I was mostly done before leaving the hospital.

I just finished a 3 month long period from heck and I still have receipts

Bare in mind that I have never had a child, but my period was so heavy that I bleed through a super tampon/overnight pad combo in less than a hour- so I assume yours is going to be heavy like that.

For the extra heavy overnight pads by always- $7.99
For the size 14+ long pads with wings- $6.99
For regular pads- around $5.99

It varies a lot by store, though. I suggest the dollar general if you have one, I always got the best price there.

I hope this helps! Too bad you don't live closer. Seriously, I have about 80 pads right now that I stocked up with when I never thought my period would go away
