DS is 12 mo, is bf, and on solids for 3 meals and a snack. He's not as good of an eater as he was, but he's eating protein, fruits, some veggies, and yogurt every day. He gets a D drop a couple times a week, and also gets some liquid iron (Floradix) because the doc noticed he was kinda pale during a last visit. His blood tested "borderline" for supplementation. She suggested polyvisol, but I found Floradix. I have to go this week to have him retested.
My husband remarked today, and I agree with him, that he doesn't look, "well." That he looks pale, and has kind of dark circles under his eyes. His cheeks are red after a nap, but not as pink as they should be, same for his lips.
Is this all related to iron? I mean, he wasn't even on the "deficient" side, more on the "borderline"- could be supplemented or not. He sleeps well, around 12ish hours at night (with a nursing or two) and 2 good naps a day. Why would he look not well, when everything I can think of is healthy about him? He's on the trim side, but has gained weight, poops and pees fine, and has a good appetite. What else should I think of?
Should I put him on a vitamin? I mean, he doesn't eat great, but he eats better than many toddlers I know - and almost all organic. No juice, no refined sugar, no junk.
Thoughts?
Thanks.
