12 mo looking a little pale/not well?

DS is 12 mo, is bf, and on solids for 3 meals and a snack. He's not as good of an eater as he was, but he's eating protein, fruits, some veggies, and yogurt every day. He gets a D drop a couple times a week, and also gets some liquid iron (Floradix) because the doc noticed he was kinda pale during a last visit. His blood tested "borderline" for supplementation. She suggested polyvisol, but I found Floradix. I have to go this week to have him retested.

My husband remarked today, and I agree with him, that he doesn't look, "well." That he looks pale, and has kind of dark circles under his eyes. His cheeks are red after a nap, but not as pink as they should be, same for his lips.

Is this all related to iron? I mean, he wasn't even on the "deficient" side, more on the "borderline"- could be supplemented or not. He sleeps well, around 12ish hours at night (with a nursing or two) and 2 good naps a day. Why would he look not well, when everything I can think of is healthy about him? He's on the trim side, but has gained weight, poops and pees fine, and has a good appetite. What else should I think of?

Should I put him on a vitamin? I mean, he doesn't eat great, but he eats better than many toddlers I know - and almost all organic. No juice, no refined sugar, no junk.

Thoughts?
Thanks.

I dropped by my midwives office for a visit and during I expressed concern about whether my LO was deficient, just because of the warnings about BF babies. She did express that everything should be fine because he would be pale (he's naturally pale, so?) and that would be clear to see. Well, she offered to test him and it came out to 11.3, which she said was fine. Although, we weren't exactly certain how fine because the other midwife borrowed the book with the charts on them. I think that the low value is 10 or 10.5? I was just glad that it wasn't 6 or something! Well, I thought I would relay my experience because my midwife said that paleness was a factor. She did a skin prick and only charged $5 for the test, so maybe you can have yours tested again for relatively cheap to put your fears to rest! Good luck!

P.S. Another thing, not to scare you, but I think I read there is some kind of gut condition where although you are giving him enough iron, he doesn't absorb it well. I think I read it here or kellymom. Maybe some one could chime in here...
