Pedometer for running and walking

Can anyone here recommend a pedometer to buy (or stay away from) for both running and walking? I know there are some that you have to calibrate to your stride so it can count the steps you take, but my stride is different when I'm walking the dog v fitness walking v jogging, so I don't think one of those will work. I need to have accurate distance calculations b/c it's part of a fitness challenge, but the routes aren't always measured.

Thanks for any advice!

I don't have a rec for a pedometer, but if you're just trying to figure out distance, there's a great online tool called gmaps pedometer where you can map your routes.

Thanks! I do use that, but I'll be training with a group of people of varying abilities. So we'll be doing intervals on a path in a park which is measured, but I'll be running to a certain point and then running back to meet the group, so I have no way to measure those little intervals.
