School uniform pants - What a pita!!

I need to find a good source for reasonably priced fully elastic waist pants for Mark. He'll need them for his school uniform next year (!!!, OMG) and he can't do zippers or buttons. Unfortunately they can't be cargo pocket pants or I'd just buy a dozen pairs from Sears for $10/each! I can easily find them in smaller sizes but once I get up past size 4T, they all have cargo pockets.

Anyone have a good source for full elastic waist, PLAIN long pants and shorts?

Have you check out Children's Place. You might have to search through all the different pants. That is where I generally get my kids uniform pants.

They don't have any full elastic waist pants without cargo pockets. At least not in durable material - I did find some $10 pants but they are , superthin and he'll go through the knee in no time. In fact, the reviews for those pants all mentioned how terribly thin they are. I found some wind pants that would work, but those aren't allowed either.

I hate to say it, but you may have to end up making pants. On a good note, they would probably be pretty easy to make since they are only elastic tops. You would probably have the most luck looking at PJ bottom patterns.

My sister learned to sew in order to make pants for her extremely tall, but skinny boy. He was a size 6 in length but 3 in the waist. There was no way she could buy pants.

Could you take the pockets off the Sears pants? You may be able to wash and dry and then iron and the alteration could not be so visible.....

Have you looked at Target? They have uniform clothes as well.

Good luck!!!

I was going to say the same thing.

Does your lo have sensory issues? My DD is super picky about how her clothes feel. It's much easier now that she is in adult sizes and can wear women's stretch pants (kinda like old lady pants). The fabric has to be soft, the waist has to be elastic.....

If we had uniforms, I might have something put in her 504 plan to give a little leyway while keeping her looking pretty much like all the other kids.

Would these work? They are expensive though.

Actually you are at the wrong time of year to be looking into uniform pants. Most school uniforms that are carried by stores wont be around till probably closer to June or July.

I have purchased the pants from TCP numerous time, and I have very active rough and tough boys. And I will say my TCP have very rarely ripped. Now, the ones I purchased for DS1 at Old Navy, he wore them one or two times and they feel apart - ripped knees, ripped in other areas, etc.

You might also want to check at Walmart and Thrift stores.

I don't know if they still carry them, but last year we got some at Wal-Mart for $7 each, but they only went up to 5T. They were actually pretty durable too.

I hope you don't mind my popping in -- I usually post mostly in Family Safety. Would these work? http://www.ruggedbear-online.com/kidtwilpulpa.html (My daughter has some sensory issues and can't stand zippers in her pants. These are comfortable and hold up well.) There are shorts on the site as well.

Rather than making pants, how about seeing if you can convert the waistband to elastic?
