conceiving while spotting

Wondering if anyone has any experience with conceiving despite LP spotting.

I consistently spot during my LP. I've been on Progesterone for the last 4 cycles, started clomid for this cycle. I was hopeful that this month I had cured the spotting. I'm 9-11 dpo and I hadn't had any spotting, then this morning a little bright red spotting and all day I've had brown CM.

I know LP spotting can be a sign of pregnancy, I had LP spotting with my first two pregnancies, but at the time that was not a normal thing for me. My LP has lengthened to 13/14 days but the spotting is still there.

I'm so frustrated. Any words of encouragement. Any personal experience getting pregnant despite luteal phase spotting.

just wondering, how much progesterone do you take and how do you take it?

I take 200mg orally (prometrium). I did ask the OB about taking it vaginally at my last visit (last month) and she said there wasn't a huge difference

me too

AF was due 2-26...nothing happened until light spotting started on 3-1, around noon. It continued light pink until 3-2 at noon it became darker red for about an hour, lightened to brown for the rest of the day and stopped all together by morning of 3-3.

spotting was only there when I wiped except for two spots on liner during the darker red hour. I did hpt on 2-28 but it was neg.

I have a reg. dr appt on 3-11....might ask for a beta just to be sure (I never skip periods and always have 5-6 days of heavy flow)

best wishes to you.....hope you get good news!

Thanks for the response! AF started this morning so no luck for me this month.

I spot every month (even on progesterone) which is so frustrating. I'm always hopeful that it could be implantation, since I had imp. spotting with both of my previous pregnancies and with my 2nd the bleeding was heavy enough that I really thought I was getting AF.

If you don't usually get spotting, I think it could be a really good sign! How many DPO are you?

Sounds like to me that you need a higher dose of progesterone...and I would take it vaginally. I was told by my perinatologist that it dose absorb better and gets right to the *spot* faster by taking it vaginally. I was also told that side effects are MUCH less when taken vaginally.

Kingsdaughter - Thanks for the advice. I am going to take the prometrium vaginally this month, now I'm wondering if I should call my OB and ask her to push my dosage up. Do you know if 200mg/day is considered a low dose? I'm not really feeling any side effects from the 200mg orally so maybe that means I need more .

I just wish I knew that the progesterone was the problem for sure. I had blood work before I started the progesterone that came back perfectly normal (around 14 at 7dpo), but because of my spotting the OB thought there still might be an issue with the prog.

This spotting is driving me crazy, and I feel like I am never going to figure it out.

Well I was on 400 mg per day for 2 of my pregnancies...and that was considered the starting dose by them... I just lost a baby to m/c recently even though I was on my 400 mg per day and after testing me again found out it is no longer enough for me...so they are upping me to 600 mg per day. Hopefully that will do the trick and I will have a healthy baby soon. I have been still nursing my DD Madilynn...she is turning 2 in a few weeks...and the doc thinks that our extended nursing wiped out my progesterone more...so I need more supplement now to stay preggo.

I don't have an answer for you, but you're not alone. I get this too.

I get brown CM every month, usually around 7-8 dpo. (This month, it started on 10 dpo, which I thought was kind of cruel). Its happened every month since I went off the pill in Dec '08. No BFP yet, but I've been reassured by my blood test results, my doctor, and and my sister (who's a PA) that it's normal.

Kingsdaughter - sorry about your MC and thanks for the info. I just assumed that 200mg was a standard dose since that's what I was started at. I'm going to call my OB and ask her to increase my dose to 400mg, and I'm definitely going to take them vaginally this month

MrsM - Do you have a regular length LP? The thing is that my LP was short before I started the Prog., like 9 - 12 days and the spotting would start at 5-6 dpo, now my LP is a normal length (13-14 days) but now I spot starting around 7-9 dpo until AF. Also I haven't been on hormonal BC for over 4 years, but that could definitely be the culprit in your case. Thanks for the encouragement and I hope you get your BFP soon!

Yes, my LP is about 13 days. I had my progesterone levels tested and discovered that it was in the high-normal range (21 at 8dpo). I spot from 7-9 dpo, have a few days off, and then AF shows up each month. Haven't been on bc since December '08 - about 15 months.

Are you taking progesterone pills or using a cream? Have you noticed a difference in the kind of spotting you get?

to you too!

My spotting is the same on the progesterone, just later... it starts brown sometimes dark and sometimes more like tan colored CM, and eventually gets red and more prevalent, but it is always very light and couldn't be confused with my actual AF. I also usually have a day of no spotting before AF starts.

I'm on Oral Prometrium 200mg - I have a call into my doctor to see if she will bump me up to 400mg for this month. Have you tried any progesterone? I went straight for Rx but I had considered trying the OTC cream.

I am so frustrated by the spotting, I just don't feel like I will get pregnant until I can get rid of it... even though my OB does say that it can be normal I think I'm just about ready to move onto an RE, I'm almost 39 and I don't want to waste too much time trying to figure this out.

If it makes you feel any better, I got & stayed pregnant with lots of spotting. When I got pregnant with DS, I had been charting to avoid pregnancy for about 7-8 cycles, and I noticed that I consistently spotted for a few days before AF. I also tended to spot around O. On top of that, I had a short LP of 8-11 days.

The cycle where I got pregnant with DS, I spotted every day from O to about 14dpo. I got a BFP on 11dpo. I still had some spotting throughout the first trimester, and even occasionally through the rest of my pregnancy. I still spot a lot now, so I think I'm just a spotter, but it does drive me up the wall. I wasn't on any meds for the spotting, but I think I was taking some b-vitamins.

Here's the chart from where I got pregnant with DS: http://www.tcoyf.com/chartgallery/ovusoft/5497.png

Thanks, that does give me some encouragement! I didn't have this spotting problem when I conceived my first two so it seems like something must be wrong with me, but I am a lot older now so that could be a big part of the problem I trying to stay positive and remember that just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen.

the spotting happened 15dpo, 3 days after AF was due to appear. It never got heavier, lasting only for 2 days and I always have regular periods of 5-6 heavy flow. 3 hpt's were negative however and my primary care doc did not seem concerned (even though he know we are ttc). He didn't order any further tests....just told me I should find an ob-gyn to see *sigh*.

If those two days were AF, then it is almost time for O again....but my pms symptoms have never gone away since last time. (mood swings, cramps, bloating, indigestion and mild nausea.) I guess I'll just have to wait and see if AF shows up in style at the end of this month!

Someone on the FF message circle mentioned that ginger tea helped stop her spotting. It's supposed to be good for circulation and digestion, so it can't hurt. I'm drinking some now! I'll let you know in a few weeks if it worked!

DivineMrsM - I've tried everything else, maybe I'll try that next I am hoping that doubling my progesterone (from 200mg to 400mg) will do the trick this month. Let me know if the Ginger tea works!

Well, it's doing wonders for EWCM (sorry if that's TMI ).
