Xopenex tonight?

Ds (28 months) has had 2 colds with wheezing since we moved to Miami in November. He's got a cold now and started coughing, and I'm wondering how to tell if he's wheezing and to do xopenex? One of the peds said when he starts coughing...but coughing isn't always an indication of wheezing, and listening to his lungs with a stethoscope, I can't hear wheezing...but I'm not sure how good my opinion is...my ear isn't trained enough to hear it. We have an appt for Tue with the ped (for something else) so she'll hear him then, but how do I know if I need to do xopenex tonight?

One thing that I'm trying to figure out is if there's something in my apt that's causing the wheezing, since there's no history of it before we moved here. So we're staying with my mom, so the environment is somewhat different.

If colds trigger his wheezing I'd do it now before he starts wheezing. Lots of kids cough instead of wheeze. The difference between my asthmatic son and my son without asthma was that the asthma cough came in fits and just kept coming.

Thanks Rachelle, he started coughing so much last night, that I decided to just do the treatment. And a retired dr. friend came over and as soon as she heard him cough, she said it sounds like asthma. She said she heard only very light wheezing in one part of his left lung, but she said the coughing sounded very much like asthmatic coughing and not like a cold type of cough.
I was so hoping it was something about our apt, but I guess it's either my mom's apt too or it's florida, or it's just a coincidence. Aren't kids supposed to be more asthmatic in colder climates? By the way, you helped me out on another thread, and I kept meaning to go back and give you an update. That's what tomorrow's appt is for tomorrow is to follow up on ds's possible intestinal parasites. The ped insisted on doing the regular tests and didn't find anything. Now his poop is looking more or less normal. Not perfect, but much better than before. We have been taking a lot more precautions with hygiene, so if it was pinworms, I just wonder how long their lifespan is? I still would like to do the metametrix, but I need to find another ped who'll work with them.

A true wheez can be tough to hear even for a pro.
