I am a graduate student with a 7-month-old son. I have some experiments to finish up and thus need to hire someone to watch my son for a couple of hours a day for a few weeks.
Even though it will just be a couple of hours a day, I am still somewhat nervous about finding the right person, etc., and about being away from my son, since he's only been away from me for 2 hours once or twice in his life (and he was with his grandmother then). (Maybe silly, but anyway...).
I am interviewing an undergrad tomorrow, with the idea that if things work out, she could just watch my son on campus and call me if he got upset/needed me. However, I've never hired a babysitter and would appreciate tips on what to ask her (she will bring references... also, what to ask those?), what to tell her, what to be on the lookout for, etc. If it matters, I don't think she'll need to feed him during the time she has him (since he can go 2 hrs without eating at this age, she could call me if he got hungry, and I'm not sure how much he'd take from a sippy cup).
Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you!
