Anyone else go super late? - Page 2

Yep, I refuse NST's. They aren't reliable. I don't trust them.

I have five, all went to 42 weeks, my 5th went to 43 weeks.

Update on Late baby

This is my first time back on the computer since I started this post on March first, Because I went into labor at 7:00 that night and my perfect beautiful 8 pd 22 inch baby boy was born at 10:08!!!!!! The homebirth was beautiful and amazing, it was everything we dreamed it would be, the kids were there, my midwife was so quiet and gave us so much space and respect to do our own thing and because of this I was able to labor so successfully and made every contraction work without any interupptions!!! I was able to talk and joke in between contractions right up until the pushing began(of course in between a lot of them I was quiet and just rested)
I'm so glad I waited!! I just tuned out everyone else's opinion. My midwife would say tune into your body and your baby find out what it is telling you-it was telling me it was fine .So I said no to the NST. So glad I waited I believe it is why I had such a quick and uncomplicated labor!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you ladies for this thread! I'm 41 weeks today with our first baby, and have been trying eeeverything to try and get the little critter to come on out. Nothing of course working, in turn making me even more anxious and impatient.

But, after reading your supportive and amazingly patient stories about the pros of just letting the baby bake and arrive when she's ready, I feel so much better and willing to relax and just wait it out.

You ladies are amazing!

Thank you!!

Mine have never gone over 41+1 (I have 6), but my mom's 3rd full-term pregnancy went to 44wks. She went to her prenatal, told the doc she thought today was the day, and he sent her home. Told her nothing had changed (dilation-wise) and if she didn't have the baby within the next couple of days they could schedule an induction. My sister arrived 4 hrs later. It's the only birth (out of 7) that my dad didn't make it for.

42 weeks here - not WAY over, but fairly over. I was fine with NSTs after 41 weeks, because I knew my midwife would be interpreting them and she was in no hurry to evict the baby.

Interesting thread, so helpful.

40 weeks today, and unless I have the baby by then, m/w wants to come over next weekend (at 40+5) to strip membranes to hopefully make things happen before 41 weeks and thus avoid any of the "post-dates protocol". With that protocol (we are in Ontario) I should go to NST and BPP at 41 weeks (next Monday). The thing is, if NST or BPP indicate baby is not well, I will be kept at the hospital for induction that same day. So by the sounds of it, I will not have options then to try other things first (acupuncture is the one I'd be most inclined to). But I want a very hands-off homebirth, and m/w is ok with that, in principle, as long as "the protocol" is observed.
So I'm advised to go for acupuncture at 40+3, before the Easter weekend (doesn't make things easier, that extra holiday!). Which is too early for my taste, as DS was born at 40+6 (had my membranes stripped though and took some homeopathics, labour was 17 hours), DD was born at 40+3 (did nothing then to make it happen, labour was 4 hours!).

Great to hear about patient 42 weekers.......

Mama. Just remember that although they have their protocols, you can refuse anything that you aren't comfortable with. If you want to follow the protocols (or have a feeling/intuition that you should) by all means do. But all of it can be refused if you have a feeling/intuition that it's not what you and your sweet little person need. From the NST/BPP to any induction techniques, it's all up to you at the end of the day.

well, here on the other side- I am sure many of you have heard my (sort of sad) tale. Went to 43 weeks and got a c section. My body just never went into labor and by 43 weeks my embryonic fliuid was all but gone and placenta was very not well. Baby is great though. I think my situation was cause I had no support past 41 weeks so didn't feel safe to birth. I think in the future what I have learned is that I would go super late if I were being monitered and if I had a good support team. As it was I felt at the time that if I didn't get the c section at 43 weeks once I finally did get the NST that my baby would have been in real danger.
I had thought my body would just go naturally but it didn't which shocked the heck out of me!
Just to say- I was wicked surprised by how it all worked out but also my super late was really super late. So who knows.

40+2 today, saw my midwife. we agreed on no stripping membranes this weekend, but I'll get acupuncture on Monday at 41 weeks, and a BPP/NST the day after if needed (I don't think so!). I can live with that......and hope for an Easter baby.
