The student in school who is just not worth the effort...

Someone on this board posted a story. (it could have been on the working parents board, but I think it was this board)

It's a story about a teacher who is doing report cards. She's got one boy who just isn't even trying. There is nothing good she can say about him.

So, she gets out his school records and starts reading all the notes from Kindergarten up til present day. (maybe fifth grade.)

The notes are all glowing, wonderful notes about what a great student he is... until second grade when his mom gets sick. Soon, the notes are all bad. He's dirty, he doesn't do his homework..From third grade on, all the notes are about how he isn't even trying... there no use in trying to help him, since he isn't going to help himself.

Does anybody have any idea where this story comes from? Or have a copy of it?

Yes.. I think that was the one. Yes, it's sappy, but it makes the point anyway. It's kindof like the song "the Christmas shoes".

Thank you.

hey no problems.

its just that stories like that and christmas song rub me the wrong way. its a feel good and that's it.

i have heard real stories from real people (i volunteered with young mamas, troubled teenagers and homeless people with a criminal background for a while) and none of them are as dramatic as those are... but i have seen what a change just a little attention brings forth. which has made me change my attitude towards life. i have heard from those teens how just a smile from a stranger goes a long way. so it doesnt have to be big at all.

the saddest part is that the real stories dont get told. no newspaper prints them.

It's not true that no one ever tells the real stories. I do see them once in a blue moon. Unfortunately though the public proves with their feedback and where they spend their money that they aren't really into the feel-good stories, they prefer scandal and horror. That's why there aren't more of the feel good ones, although I think there are truly more than we see in print/on tv.

I love the real ones, and honestly I love this kind too because it's not that far off the mark, I've heard stories that almost sound like this. Few and far between, but still true and real.

Never heard this particular one, so thanks for posting.
