This is something that has popped up in the last year with DS2. His only diagnosis so far is Speech Apraxia and now also Articulation Disorder. We do believe he might have some other issues, but everyone is passing concerns off as behavior that has resulted from his speech issues, and once those are cleared up the other stuff will work out on its own. These are issues even his teachers at his IEP program noted and made changes to his IEP to work on.
One of the big things is transitioning. For example....our biggest one at home is transitioning to bed time. We have had the same routine for years with the kids, but the last year DS2 has grown more difficult. (At bed time, we head upstairs, get changed, brush our teeth, read our books, then lights out.) He is starting to fight every step of the way. He will get very hyper, thereby causing his siblings to get hyper - like he will start jumping on the bed, and picking on his brother and sister, which will then get them started. We have been separating him from the other two at bed time the last few weeks, and we are able to get the other two down like normal. But we have to physically sit upstairs in the hallway where the bedrooms are anywhere from 1-3 hours before he will fall asleep. If we are not upstairs he will get out of his bed and start playing or getting into trouble. Then, he is up at least 2-3 times a night.
We have an appointment set up with his Ped, but it is going to be almost a month before we can get in for it. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations we can try. I am mostly concerned about the bed time transition. But would also like to figure out the others - but I think some of it is is exerting his independence that he learned very early on with his lack of communications abilities.
