I need congestion remedies!!!

Hey mamas,

My 3yr ds is so very stuffed up and has not slept for days...no joke. He seems to feel ok but nothing I have tried gets rid of his stuffy nose. He rolls around all night sniffling and cannot nap. I have tried saline spray/essential oils(eucalyptus,peppermint etc), hot/steamy showers, vaporizor in his room, elevating his pillow...even Vicks vapor rub...nothing helps. Any tricks/remedies that you know of would be so greatly appreciated right now. TIA

May sound crazy but you could try Fenugreek seed tea. I read somewhere that it is good for sinus infections. Maybe it will help.

I would just continue on with what you're doing. The steamy showers are great, and keep him very hydrated so that the mucus will thin out and he can eventually start coughing it up. Lots of water and light colored drinks. Keep dairy products out, as they can cause the mucus to thicken up.

I have heard that mucinex is good for thinning out the mucus. In a child younger than 6, I would definitely check with your doc though before giving him anything. Unfortunately, there are not many decongestants out there for the younger kids.

Slather the vicks on a shirt on top of his shirt, so he doesn't have to have it on his skin but he can breathe it in. Even a bib or something

and it really helps w the congestion. Love it!!

Also, prop his head up on a pillow when he sleeps. This helps so much too.
