kid's novel, AA progatonist, revolutionary war?

I just finished reading Johnny Tremain to my boys. Hadn't read it since I was a kid myself and while it was just as good as I remembered, I was so struck by the irony of all the freedom talk, with slavery going on at the same time.

I'd like to read them something set in the same period, but with a black protagonist. Can anyone recommend a good novel for ages 8-12, set during the revolutionary war, with African Americans as the main characters?

Laurie Halse Anderson's Chains takes place at that time and is about a girl and her sister in slavery. I haven't read the whole thing but she's an excellent writer.
