Do you put anything on a bad cut?

My 3yo ds cut the top of his toe pretty badly today. I have no idea what he cut it on, it was in the house, but he didn't cry or anything, I just found a trail of blood going through the house. The cut is above the nail on the soft top part of the toe. It's about a 1/2" "slice" and although I got the bleeding to stop after rinsing it and elevating it, now that he's walking around on it it keeps bleeding again. I need to get some special toe bandaids, but would you put anything on it? Aloe? I guess because it's touching the floor, I feel like I need to do something besides air dry it and let it heal.

You could use iodine (Betadine) on it because that would both kill bacteria plus continue to keep them out of the cut. I'd also cover it since it's on his foot. You may need to use a butterfly bandage if it keeps opening.

Is that sold at drug stores?

Iodine is a good treatment for cuts. Did you clean the area with an Anti-disinfectant such as Dettol or even Peroxide. You must always clean the area and then apply the treatment to the cut. If it gets any worse please take him to the doctor.

I usually just go with a bandaid.
