My 8mo. old sings with his dad. He has been singing for months! I have 3 other children and they never did this. Has anyone else had or have seen an infant sing?

Define singing? My DD (10 m) vocalizes along with her favorite songs, but can't carry a tune and no words. Just babbling in a singsong way.

Mine does the same as Sarah's...but he also vocalizes with any steady noise, such as the vacuum cleaner, food processor, hair dryer! fwiw my first two didn't "sing" this way with music or anything else.

His Dad sings and he will just vocalize with him. He runs his voice until he runs out of breath and keeps doing it until the song is over. It just seemed so special and unique because my other children never did it and I have never seen it. It seems that it should be so natural. I am sure that when music or types of chanting were common in small social groups that it was what babies did. It probably seems unique because we have lost those things. And not everyone feels comfortable singing aloud all the time. So babies just aren't hearing enough to mimic. I was just wondering how many other moms were just as impressed by it as me.......or maybe I am in awe cuz he's mine. heehee

I sing to my kid all the time and he will do this too. I LOVE it! He is also very drawn by anything musical, so maybe someday both of our kids will be natural musicians!

My mom has already given him his rock-band name.

I read about babies singing recently in the list of descriptions/traits of Crystal Children and my best friend confirmed it w/her second who sang long before she talked and fits the crystal child description to a T!
Doreen Virtue has a great book on Crystal Children as does Meg Blackburn Losey-The Children of Now

DD does this all the time. She started about 2 wks ago. It's hillarious! We were in church yesterday and she was 'singing' along with the music, except after one song she decided that they ended it too early and just kept going...

I read in some Penelope Leach book that many if not most babies can sing before they can talk.

Oh what fun! DS started doing this when he was around 2 or 3 months. I was blown away and figured it was because I've been singing to him so much. It started when I would sing to him for bed/nap time, he would just join in.
Now he sings all the time. It's great. I'm so glad more parents get to enjoy the singing voices of the little LOs.

Little guy is only five weeks but I wouldn't be surprised if he started singing along as I do a lot of singing and rhythmic stuff with him. I'm quite musically inclined myself so this is one of the happiest/fun things I can share with him at this early age. He really seems to enjoy it when I do more upbeat alert time singing and I have him "dance along" a little at times or actually dance around the living room myself while holding him. I don't always sing words, sometimes I'll go through a twelve bar blues number alternating the instruments: I'll do the bass line, then I'll do a little "trumpet" part. Sometimes I'll even do clicking percussive sounds which really seems to appeal to him for some reason. At night time he gets the slow soothing "sleepy-time for Jaesun" lullaby which is amazingly effective (simply humming can be effective for knocking him out too if I hold him near my Adam's apple ...) and though I know it will be a while before he really does learn his alphabet the ABC A Capella Hip Hop Remix is a pretty big hit too ...

I have a ball singing to my son, whether or not he begins to "sing along" at all or not I value this early age bonding time with him probably more than almost anything else we do together.
