What basics do I need for canning?

I want to save more of our harvest this year and want to do it right, what basic equipment do i need? TIA

It depends on what you're planning to preserve. If you'll be canning high-acid items, you can get away with a water bath canner. If you plan to preserve low-acid foods, you'll need a pressure canner. Different people prefer different sizes and types of canners. I personally prefer a weighted gauge pressure canner (as opposed to a canner with a dial gauge) because the gauge never needs to be recalibrated.

These are the tools I think are needed:
jars
rings
lids
funnel
plastic spatula
jar lifter
instructions of some sort- either a book or trusted website
