... but I'm not so sure I am!
Last week, we were playing in 23mo DD's (not slept in) bedroom when I said, "Show me how you go night-night." She climbed into her toddler bed, tucked herself in and closed her eyes. I played along with her, even going so far as to close the door for a few minutes.
When I opened the door and told her, sorry we were just pretending, she was not a very happy camper. She thought she was going to get to sleep in her room!!
She's slept with us since she was 6 weeks old. (And only at that point because we tried, desperately, to get her to accept the bedside co-sleeper. No, she wouldn't so we slept in shifts with her on our chests!!) And while she hasn't actively asked to sleep in her own room since then, I'm beginning to think that she is ready to try.
The problem is, I'm sure I'm not ready for her to stop cosleeping! Sure, we have our share of cranky moments, but both DH and I agree that we like sleeping together as a family. Having DD with us gives us peace of mind, knowing that she's safe and not wanting for anything.
Should I let her transition even though we're clearly not ready? Or should I wait for her to be more vocal about it? She's very independent minded and she's been making incredible strides in her independence lately. She used to be such a clingy little one, never wanting to be far from Mommy but now she's just go go go, always running off to explore. I'm happy that she is growing but feeling a little bad about it too.
