Another here for you OP.

I posted a week or so ago about the disgust and fear I have relating to my house too...yes I have some hideous things (plank flooring in DD room, at least 60-70yr old (I think original!) lino in my bedroom, a drawer in my kitchen that tips out and people used to store flour in (and old plywood type cupboards I have painted), and some poor renovations by the previous owners (like bad mudding in the bathroom corners when they put drywall over plaster ). I know I am not going to fall through my lino floor 10 years from now, what scares me is the LOC debt I have and the fact I have leaking windows (one in my bedroom has a soaking wet sill that I was able to pick an inch deep of rotted wood out). I am stuck in this house as we would lose alot of money getting out of it. We have done quite alot of renos the 3 yrs I have been here like furnace, roof, attic and some blown in wall insulation, and painting is like another poster said an ongoing process. We are gutting most of our basement now ourselved (have some mildew/mold down there and NO ventilation in our house) and have been approved by our utility company for a loan for installing an HRV.

I am just crossing my fingers that when our locked in 5 yr interest rate (4.5%) comes due in Mar 2012 that I can afford to put the rest of the windows on it (our income tax return is going to replace the worst 3 or so of the SEVENTEEN we need to do), finish siding it, and deal with putting the basics basement back together like installing a sump pump or the bracing the chimmeny better that we cannot afford to remove right now. The ugly stuff that is not a health hazard can wait, but yeah it is frustrating.

I try to concentrate on my nice yard with a hammock, and my windows that let the light in, and my dining room larger than most peoples living rooms, even if the floor is 30yr old cut-up-mustard-yellow UGLY!

O...and I DO NOT read magazines like Canadian House and Home...or watch those HGTV shows....it only makes me more depressed!!!!
