4 month old wakes up screaming

For about a week or two now my 4 month old DD wakes up at about 7am everyday screaming. Its hard to calm her down. It seems like shes still a sleep when this happens and if I can get her awake and looking around the room she calms and i can nurse her back to sleep.

we have always bedshared. she never cries at night, and when she does want to nurse she just reaches out for my girls and that alerts me and we side lay nurse and sleep.

i thought it might be wet diaper but it doesnt seem like it. often after this first waking i change her and she sleeps again and then an hour later she wakes up screaming again, apparently in her sleep.

she used to wake up calmly.

any ideas?

our dc are about the same age. our 4 mo dd did this too, but it seems to have ended. no idea why it happened, and one night it was REALLY bad, i took her to change her and she kept her eyes shut while she screamed and cried real tears (not just fussy fussing).. but, like i said, she's kind of over it now.
it may just be a developmental thing. it will pass!

DS did this around that age (I think...somewhere between 3-6 months) I always assumed it was a nightmare or something. It could be anything, to be honest...Gas, a food allergy, nightmare, random pain, or just random screaming. I can tell you that it should pass soon, though.

I have no advice to give you, but wanted to share that my daughter did the exact same thing at about 4 months old! Seriously, same time and everything- 7 am on the dot, she would just start screaming in her sleep; it was like she couldn't wake up. We just did what you have been doing- we comforted her, I tried to nurse her, and usually she would fall back asleep for another half hour to hour before waking up normally. This went on almost every day for a few weeks, and then it disappeared and hasn't happened since.

At the time, I felt so bad for her, she seemed so distraught even while in the bed right next to us. She always wakes up with a smile now, for what it's worth

Thank you so much for all your replies, I do feel much better now!! Babies do so many strange things we cant figure out - sigh. what a test of patience.
