Kombucha question

Thread Starter
I am waiting for a scoby to come in the mail. I dont have a big jar to make my kombucha in. Can I use a smaller jar? I have a large jam jar thats maybe a liter or a liter and a half. I hear the first batch is all about bringing the scoby back to life anyway. That should buy me some time to find a bigger jar. Right now I am more concerned with keeping the scoby alive than I am with succesfully making kombucha tea.

Do you have a large glass bowl? Some of the recipes suggest using a bowl instead of a jar initially. IIRC the advantage to a large bowl is more surface area.

In those recipes the suggestion is to use a large bowl for the duration of the time the kombucha is out of the fridge. Then when it is ready for refrigeration it can be moved to lidded jars.
