Stuck in traffic-- what would you do? - Page 2

I've been rear-ended in a bad (but still moving) traffic jam *%&#ed my neck up real nice. DC traffic is wretched. I would NOT take him out, nor would I lean over (hello back problems plus you are a very heavy object to land ON YOUR BABY'S SAFETY SEAT, they are not built for that!). I would definitely make my way over to the shoulder (yes in 98% of situations you can get over if you want to.), park, and put my emergency lights on. If it's so bogged down that getting to the shoulder (or there is no shoulder) is impossible, then me putting my vehicle in park, turning on my emergency lights and nursing my babe ain't going to slow anyone down because obviously we ain't goin' anywhere anytime soon. The person behind you will see the emergency lights and they are not gonna hit you.

i have tried all of the above...

i nursed hanging over the carseat but hurt my back really bad doing that.

one time, while dh was driving on a back road, not near any other cars, in nice weather, i climbed into the back seat & took dd1 out of her seat. it was so nerve racking though. we were soooo late for a very impt appt but i would never do it again. it was just too scary.

i have pulled over so many places!!

but i had 2 horrific situations...one last week where i pulled off the highway into a town that i wasn't familiar with & ended up going down a weird one way the wrong way, with a screaming newborn & cars coming at me. it was the scariest moment ever but we were fine. i still can't believe they had an exit ramp that went onto a one way that wasn't clearly marked at all!!!

the other was a blizzard 2 years ago-dd1 & i were stuck in the car for 5 hours & i ended up pulling into a toll booth parking lot at one point-one of the ones that only holds a couple cars & is supposed to be for a cop & a toll booth worker only.
