My ds is nine months old (!) and we've had our nighttime struggles. He actually slept really great early on - six to eight hours in a row at night. At three months, we noticed that he was waking (we thought due to us) more frequently and put him in his own room. That actually improved his sleep for a few weeks until he regressed big time. At about four months, I went back to work, so we put him in bed with us so I could get as much sleep as possible. He did fine that way, although he still struggled to get back to sleep after nursing, but I felt he was safe in our bed and could relax while he tossed and turned. Recently, however, he has started crying when he can't get back to sleep and is extremely difficult to calm. He either wants to be latched on (which I can't sleep through) or he is awake crying usually for an hour or so
. So, last week we moved him back into his room and his sleep is actually improving - only one or two wakings a night (
) - BUT, he still struggles to get back to sleep. Last night he was awake, for example, from 12:15 - 1:00 and from 3:00 - 4:30.
I have literally tried everything (I think). He's had a set nighttime routine since four months. He is warm and comfy (sleeps on a lambie in a sleep sack) he has special sleep music, a dark room and white noise. He has a paci and a lovey. We EC during the day, but he's never taken to it at night (screams and cries a lot), so we use a sposie for nighttime. Last night in desperation, I did potty him and he did pee, although it didn't help him calm down and go to sleep. I would normally guess teething, but his teeth really aren't bothering him during the day and he's been like this since day one. Oh, and we've also looked at food issues. It really helped to eliminate dairy early on (we're still dairy free), but his symptoms were more digestive-related.
So, I'm kind of at a loss as to how to either help him sleep for longer periods of time and avoid waking or move through nighttime feedings and waking to easier times of back to sleep. Any ideas as to what I'm missing? I'd love any suggestions or any shared experiences.
Thanks so much!
