strollers for 4year olds?

Thread Starter
We like to take walks each day with our dog and it is also my exercise. My 4 year old still enjoys running in races (in the jogging stroller) with his Dad as well and he still likes the daily walks in nice weather. BUT....he is TOO big for the stroller. He is tall- 45inches. We tried a Bob stroller in a store and he is too tall for it. He is an only child now but we hope to someday soon add to the family. I am just not ready for stroller days to be over.....the street to get to the neighborhood where we walk is busy so allowing my child to walk won't work plus I'll never get any exercise myself if I do this. Any ideas for strollers that accommodate older kids or are my stroller days really over?

You could get an adaptive stroller (usually for special needs children) but they are very expensive.

Can he ride a bike? If I want to take a brisk walk with my 4 yr. old I just speed-walk behind him on his bike. Although he just got a bigger bike so I might not be able to keep up anymore!

I would look at a Maclaren or possibly a bike trailer that converts to a stroller.

My almost 6 year old still likes to ride in our Maclaren double. But I'm not sure that it would work well as a jogging stroller.

You could try a wagon.

NO! That would be dangerous if she tried jogging with a wagon. Wagons tip over way too easily.

Is it too tall because of the umbrella, or the straps, or ? Just wondering, 'cause I know the umbrella comes off my Graco stroller pretty easily and if he fit otherwise and the umbrella is a problem, maybe you could just do that?

I'd suggest the bike trailer that converts to a jogger. We have the charriot CX1 with jogging wheel. My 3 yo is only 41" but there is plenty of room for him. It doesn't give you quite as much clearance as a regular jogger. Otherwise the bike idea (although you said the road was very busy). I had to jog to keep up with ds on his balance bike.

Try a wagon. We have one of those for when I'm babysitting smaller yet older kids.

Have you tried a Mountain Buggy? I thought I had heard they were good for taller children. What about First Step? Sporting good stores usually have that one so you could try it out.

You should check out the Yahoo group, StrollerSwaps. They would definitely be able to help you out. It would probably help to know your sons torso measurement-butt to top of his head.

ETA~
Also, if you were interested in a basic stroller, we have this Maclaren for our DS-41.5" tall and he has plenty of growing room. http://www.maclarenbaby.com/us/conte...88908/lang,en/
