This guy won for the "Fog of War" I liked this part of his speech:
Quote:
ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

Errol Morris:
40 years ago this country went down a rabbit hole in Vietnam and millions died. I fear we're going down a rabbit hole once again. And if people can stop and think and reflect on some of the ideas and issues in this movie, perhaps I've done some damn good here. Thank you very, very much.

I did not like the little comment Billy made afterwards.......

"That putz of an announcer"

OK--someone correct me if I am wrong, but that totally annoying announcer who asked Angelina Jolie to wave & embarrased the whale girl & Johhny Depp, among other things . . .

is he not Billy Bush---- i.e., of the President Bush family?? A nephew or something???

I think that jackass announcer's name is Billy Bush.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.. it all makes perfect sense now!

journeymom - :LOL

According to the Daily Show, Viggo wasn't available because he was recovering at some sort of institute for "Smoldering Intensity". :LOL

Speaking of Stuart Townsend and the whole LOTR sweep...I wonder how he felt about it? I mean, afterall, he was the originally annointed Aragorn before they replaced him with Viggo partway into the initial shooting processes. Sure it's been 6-7 years since that happened, but he's also seen what a career-making role that has been for Viggo. Were it me, I prolly couldn't help but feel a little sour grapey.

I feel sorry for Townsend too! Now he is just Mr Theron. I wonder how he feels about not being even acknowledged as an actor in his own right? Joan Rivers didn't know who he was on the Carpet.
I hope he gets a decent role soon. I saw him the the Lestat movie and League of Extraordinary Gentleman and think he shows promise. And his looks are def in Depp/Law territory. That whole School of Smouldering Intensity thing.

Just who was sitting next to Renee and said, 'this is your moment' (GAG ME) when she won for Best Supporting? She thanked this same man when she spoke, said he helped her 'dream more than she ever thought possible' something like that.

Who is that guy? It wasn't Jack White. It was some old, fat dude with bad teeth.

This is your moment. :

I also thought Theron was faking any crying. She ended with, 'I'm not going to cry!' but she never did. Good actress, though.

Billy Crystal needs to be permanently retired.

Ohhhh - I thought the Oscars were a little on the boring side this year...but in a good way (LOTR just sort of took over). I really watched to see Crystals opening (OK -but sort of chaotic) and to hear the music. I wanted to hear the sacred harp song...but it never happened. The Sacred Harp singers were supposed to sing a piece by themselves after they accompanied 'Scarlett Tide'.(Hey Dragonfly....so cool that you're a SH Singer. I'm writing my thesis on it and have just started going to singings. Glad to know someone else at MDC who knows about that amazing wall of sound.) Still - I liked the slow songs...I love Alison Krauss's voice.

The Will Ferrell/Jack Black song was totally funny. I'm OK with Sean Penn winning...but was sort of rooting for Bill Murray. Don't care much one way or the other for Charlize Theron...but she looked nice - sprayed on tan notwithstanding.

I usually watch it mostly for the dresses...and thought things were a little careful this year. Jennifer Garner looked amazing though. I missed Halle Berry.

Now - I gotta see some of those movies. Thats the only thing having a baby has really changed for me (that I notice anyway. lol) I never see movies anymore.

playdoh--I too was wondering who that big guy next to Renee was??

marg of arabia--I didn't like Billy Crystal's comments after the Vietnam/Iraq reference either. I was thinking "don't make a joke, don't make a joke." But of course he did.

that whole billy bush thing makes sense. I only saw him interview Angelina, but I kept think who is that guy and what's wrong with him?! He and our pres. select must be related:

overall i think the awards shows are fun to watch. i wouldn't mind getting all dressed up and looking beautiful for a night! I am glad Sean and Tim and Sophia won also.

something i thought of after the show was how Charlize is from S. Africa and she made sure to say hello and tell them she was coming home for a visit but she was wearing a like a million dollars in diamonds. isn't the diamond industry totally corrupt and laborers work for practically no wages in dangerous situations?! wearing all those diamonds didn't seem like she had much concern for her fellow countrymen. The gentlemen seated between Renee and Nicole was Bob Weinstein, the executive producer of Cold Mountain. He is the brother of Hollywood heavy hitter Harvey Weinstein and with almost 150 producing credits in the last 20 years is no slouch himself. Click on his name to view his rather impressive CV.

eta what did crystal say after the guy?

I'm so glad I didn't know that beforehand (about the other song)... it would have been a major disappointment! Do you know which one it was?

Anytime you want to talk Sacred Harp, just let me know! That's wonderful that you're writing your thesis on it!

I really wasn't into watching it. It was on but I really only remember two things...

1) stopping what I was doing to come out and see who a singer was with the most amazing voice...it was Allison Krauss. Amazing.

2) I walked by while Charlize was giving her speech. YAWN!

It's been fun to read this thread though. Kinda wished I watched it now.
