So worried. Almost 6 weeks pregnant and I have mastitis(m)

It started yesterday and seemed mild enough, that I did the usual, nursed lots(well as much as he was willing, he's not that interested during the day), massaged, heat, rest.

This morning it was on the other side of the same breast and gotten really bad, really quickly, which hasn't happened to me in years, usually I knock it out with self help meaures, so having to take the antibiotic. but I have a fever that I've tried to keep down with tylenol, but it's higher now.

I'm so worried that the fever has harmed the baby. It's only been 24 hours, and praying the antibiotics will kick in quickly, but...OH, man why is nothing ever easy.

how high has your fever gotten?

ETA - remember, high temps cause risk of problems... it does not guarantee them. So even if you have dangerous temps... your baby is only at higher risk of problems and knowing that gives you the knowledge to make sure that is checked out. There is... of course... the chance that absolutely nothing ends up wrong, even with really high temps!

I think I've managed to keep it under 102 at all times, and much lower than that most of the time, but certainly elevated somewhat for about 24 hours now. I haven't gotten the shaking chills, which I have gotten in the past with really bad mastitis so I guess that's good.

Thanks for the encouragement. I know only time will tell. I just worry so much because of our two second trimester losses, and now this just adds fuel to that already flaming fire of worry...

if you keep it under 102 the whole time you are good and should not be running any risks whatsoever with the babe. You dont want it to get above 102 for too long or those risks rise, the higher/longer its up the more the risk.

But yeah, if you have been able to manage under 102 you should be A-OK!

I hope you feel better soon! I know its no fun. It does seem that the more we get it the more our bodies can fight it off on their own... my first bout with mastitis had my temp to 105 for half an hour! I was rushed to the ER!

My most recent one (which mind you was about 4 years ago lol) my temp never hit above 101. and it didnt hurt anywhere nearly as bad.

shred a white potato

I'm telling you from 4x's of having mastitis that grating a white potato and then placing it on the breast works really well to draw out the infection. something about how it changes the alkaline levels makes it difficult for the bacteria to thrive. The last time I had mastitis was just a few months ago. And due to cracked and bleeding nipples doing the massages in a hot bath to "milk" out the puss was excruciating but had results as well. I've had fevers w/ mastitis so high that I was hallucinating - not good! I don't know how high they were because I never seem to have a working thermometer or the presence of mind to take my own temp when i have one

Hang in there!

Phytolacca/30C is a great homeopathic remedy for Mastitis. It is not a guarantee for everyone, but it happened to work unbelievably well for me when I was having a lot of problems with plugged ducts/infection. You let 3 pellets dissolve in the mouth and if within a few hours there is ANY improvement of ANY of the symptoms (redness, swelling, etc.), stop taking it. If nothing changes, take another 3 pellets 4 - 6 hrs. later and do the same up to 3 times a day. If by the 3rd or 4th dose, nothing has improved, stop taking it altogether because this means that it, unfortunately, is not working for you - it is worth a shot, though!

And drink TONS of water...

Good luck and I hope you get better a.s.a.p.
