I love the idea of Eat to Live, and am already a vegetarian who mostly eats vegan. I only need to lose around 10 pounds or so, and I want to find a way to eat that I feel I can do for the long term. Even though I LOVE veggies, I find them really difficult to eat without some added fat like a salad dressing9and all the fat free dressings I have had are just awful.) So my compromise has been to do the program with some added fats, while trying very hard to keep this to a minimum. For example I am reducing the amount of oil in everything I make. I know it may kind of defeat the idea of eat to live, but I just don't see how I can do it long term if I don't modify it some. So, is anyone doing modifications, and how is that working for you? What modifications are you making? I really do believe that this high plant based diet is the healthiest way for me to eat.

Yeah, I do a modified version. I eat a lot of nuts and seeds, and am liberal with olive oil and full fat salad dressing. 'Eat for Health' has an easier to follow version of the diet. I don't actually 'follow the diet' per se, I developed a way of eating and later learned that it is essentially Eat for Health.

even if you are doing a modified version you can still chat with us on the e2l thread, there aren't many of us there, and all are welcome!

but i will say that the first 6 weeks i was more or less living the 90% rule/life plan and still managed to lose 13 lbs in that time frame. We all will need to modify the diet to meet our own needs, but as long as the basic principles are there i wouldn't think it would be a problem. I am now reading disease proof your child also by dr. fuhrman, and one thing he says in the beginning of the book is, (it's not what we (americans) are eating that is the problem with our diet, but what we are not eating) paraphrased-don't have the exact quote atm. So that is the way i look at it, if I am eating 10 servings of fruits, veggies a day plus another serving of nuts and 1 cup of beans, then i am eating way healthier than the majority of americans, and if i slip up and have something bad, i'm not as worried about it, because i am eating such healthy food that my body will bounce back naturally and recover.
I know one thing i have too much of is probably salt. I don't add it to everything, but it is in some things i eat, but i don't stress over it, again, I know that i am getting way less than most...
