Frequent Urination / Treatment for potential infection?

(Sorry for short sentences. Typing fast here!)

My DS (3.5 yr) has had a couple of odd days of having to pee rather frequently. The other day his foreskin tip was reddish. He's been adjusting himself a little more than normal. No other signs of infection (no fever, no discharge). Just so happens his last bath was a week ago so redness could be general need for a bath?? No retraction. No diapers. I often put acidophillus in his drinks. I'll visit doc on Friday.

Any natural remedies that can help avoid / prevent further infection? Tea tree oil? Baking soda? Any advice / help appreciated!

Thanks!
Kathy

Update: Still peeing frequently. Redness is the least of my concerns! I'm boggled as to why he's peeing so often. 2 out of 10 times he will just drip pee. As mentioned before, no other symptoms of infection. Also, no other signs of Diabetes (no thirst, no weight loss / gain, no increase / decrease in appetite). Still confused

Check out this thread Possible Separation Issues there are some things listed to help with this kind of thing and help you determine if medical treatment might be indicated.

At his age I am betting separation is a factor and not an infection at all. Though any age between birth and adulthood is normal for separation to happen it seems that 2-3 we see a lot of posts about this kind of thing.

It sound like separation to me too, but just in case you might want to give him cranberry juice. If it's separation as we suspect it won't hurt anything, and if he has a very slight bladder infection going it might knock it out without getting a Dr involved.

Any explanation for the constant peeing? Doc said to look for blood in urine and odor if it's an infection. Thankfully, I've seen none of those signs. Don't understand the peeing though. I can almost ignore the slight redness at the tip. Doesn't look alarming at all.

It could just be drinking lots of fluids, especially anything caffeinated, but if it's an on going and really noticeable issue, then I would look at blood sugar. Heavy peeing is an early warning sign for diabetes.

I was out and about with my son one day last summer and we came upon some kids playing in a public fountain (this is allowed by the city). I let my son play in it even though he didn't have a swimsuit. Then we continued errands while he was in his wet clothes. He ended up with a lot of irritation to his penis and for 3 days, he peed constantly. The doctor did test his urine for a UTI but there was nothing. I truly think that irritation right at the opening of the urethra can spur you on to pee more frequently. It has happened to me when I use harsh cleaners in my laundry.

Sounds like regular separation symptoms, not an infection. Please read this:

Regular separation symptoms do NOT warrant a trip to the doctor. Actually the doctor will probably do more harm than good by either prescribing antibiotics unnecessarily or trying to retract your son's foreskin.
