Tips when you're in pain? - Page 2

OP, I whine when my back hurts, too. Back pain is much worse than labor pain. It's the worse pain I've ever had.

I use a heating pad to relieve my back pain. It works. It does slow down the healing process, though, because the heat worsens the inflammation. So - great for pain relief, terrible for healing time.

The usual recommendation is ice and rest for a few days, and then a heating pad.

Except for my baths, I've been resisting the temptation of heat. I feel weird walking around with an ice pack shoved down the back of my pants, but it is helping.

It still hurts, but it feels so much better that I can't believe I was carrying on like I was just a couple days ago! I have physio (apparently, that's "physical therapy" in the US - had no idea) again tonight.

Taking it easy is so hard when there's so much to do, but it does seem to be helping a lot.

I haven't managed to get much help (except that once dh gets home from work, he's Superman), but the kids aren't being too demanding...except for dd2, and she's at least the lightest of the bunch!

I'm glad you're feeling better! Sacroiliitis can recur, so make sure to line up a few just-in-case helpers for the next flare-up.

What a revolting notion.

I'm really hoping this is related to my lack of core strength (I tend to think of it as "I don't have a core right now"). Hopefully, if I can ever close this diastasis - I'm starting to think it may require surgery, and the idea of more surgery in my abdominal area honestly makes me cry - my back will do better.

I have no idea what effect diastasis might have on it. DH's set in as a result of a car accident; I've read that it can also be caused by pregnancy. DH is, however, usually able to nip his in the bud when it starts to recur, so it never gets too bad-- BUT that requires lots of rest on his part. At least 24-48 hours with no kid-carrying at all. YMMV

I can probably manage that by the next time I have a bout of this (if I do - I'm hoping I won't!). It's just not feasible this time, though...dd2 has a cold, and she wants mama...a lot.

However, physio is working. I'm far from 100%, but not at the "almost in tears" 24 hours a day phase I was in when I posted this, either.
