I just came down with a cold in the middle of last week. I'm getting over it now. DH just came down with it a couple days ago. How long will we be contagious?
I'm asking because DH's grandmother was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (with a brain tumor). All she wants is to see him one more time. The doctors are estimating that she only has a few months left. So DH put in for leave so we can go visit her. We're scheduled to get there a week from today and to stay a week. This is our only chance to see her for quite a while. It's too late to reschedule.
From what I understand they're only doing quality of life treatments - right now, radiation for her brain tumor to prevent seizures etc. Should we wear masks to go visit her? Are there other precautions we should take? We obviously don't want to get her sick, but if all she wants before she dies is to see DH one more time, I'd hate to have to tell her that we've made our yearly trip to visit his family and we can't see her.
